Heard that on the radio too, made me spit on me steering wheel!Wasps are sponsoring it aren't they?
I hope the city doesn't win - it doesn't deserve to. It's fucked it's own history and tradition right in the shitter.
It's not just the other sporting clubs it doesn't focus on however.I am really hoping we win it too. Don't like the Wasps aspect of it at all, but this is our city and surely we should all want our city to be and do better and also to receive some kind of boost to its economy.
Fingers crossed.
I don't disagree with that. It's not just the other sporting clubs it doesn't focus on however.
Hopefully things change, but they're missing out a fair amount of the culture that's already there, and that desperately needs an economic boost!
our council do not deserve it
My point perfectly illustrated! They have no chance they are up against stoke on Trent it's like battle of the dumps
Why is it nailed on for Stoke?I'm afraid it's nailed on for Stoke to win it. Unfortunately the pervading mood of Coventry residents that 'nothing good ever happens to Cov' will continue.
Until Coventry people have faith in their own City and want to promote it rather than run it down, then why should outsiders have faith in it and be willing to invest in it? The same goes for CCFC.
It does, but (and I'm not talking the sporting clubs of the city here!) the way established elements of the city are being hung out to dry is rather... awful IMNSHO.I don't disagree with that.
Coventry certainly needs a boost though
a club that should not be here.
Them being here is not very Coventry Cultural. It doesn't exactly signify that great tradition and heritage of our city...They are here, and they have every legal right to be. You don't have to be happy about that, but that's reality nonetheless. Your post implies that we all ought to agree with you - obviously what's happened is far from being to CCFC's advantage, but let's face it, the real responsibility for what has happened lies principally with CCFC owners past and present.
Well NW, the fact is they are a Coventry club now and represent an aspect of the future of culture/sport in Coventry.Them being here is not very Coventry Cultural. It doesn't exactly signify that great tradition and heritage of our city...
In the context of the City of Culture bid, whose 'fault' it is (and we can debate that to death... again) is irrelevant really, as is the legality.
So if we rip up the past we're as bad as the Taliban destroying monuments in Syria.Well NW, the fact is they are a Coventry club now and represent an aspect of the future of culture/sport in Coventry.
Given their predilection for moving around, it remains to be seen whether or not they are still a 'Coventry' club when the City of Culture prize is awarded.Well NW, the fact is they are a Coventry club now and represent an aspect of the future of culture/sport in Coventry.
I saw the video the other week and actually was impressed with the multi cultural content, the people on it spoke of what Coventry has given them from refugees to a Chinese jaguar Land Rover designer but the Coventry City omission was not on my radar.
I will tell you why! It's a sales video to award the city the city of culture and I fully understand why a failing fourth division side isn't sexy and a premiership winning rugby club is.
Blinkers off, this is here and now not 1987 or the 34 years.
Wasps are sponsoring it aren't they?

Absolutely. most of the miserable gits spend their whole lives running the place down and the other half are foreign born and have no real affinity with the place. I enjoy a trip to Cov, always have, love some of the old buildings and the history, enjoy the theatre and some of the characterful little pubs. My relatives were all from Cov and almost all of them ran it down too.I'm afraid it's nailed on for Stoke to win it. Unfortunately the pervading mood of Coventry residents that 'nothing good ever happens to Cov' will continue.

I've took sceptics from over my way on beery tours of the City, doing a decent pub alternated by a bit of history and they've all loved it by the end of it and the likes of the motor museum, cathedral, Herbert art gallery and Guildhall all come for no charge too.Yes, was saying the same to my mate the other week (he's one of the positive people about Cov). In the 10 years since I've moved away it has improved, but the people in Coventry have the same apathetic attitude to their city as they do to the football team.
our council do not deserve it
City of Culture......walk around town any day of the week and you are surrounded by homeless people and buskers, is that what our culture consists of?
I don't buy that argument. If you went to any other city in the country and asked random people in the street to name a sports team they associate with Coventry the answer would overwhelmingly be Coventry City.I fully understand why a failing fourth division side isn't sexy and a premiership winning rugby club is.
