Hi _ anyone know when and how the RICOH signs at the Arena are being covered up, taken down, prior to the olympic games being played?
I have noticed they have covered the City Badge up already with a big black canvas or maybe this is because they havnt paid the rent!

Probably be left up until the very last second, Ricoh pay a lot to advertise at the stadium so it's only fair they have as much exposure as possible.

Do they have to obscure the branding? I wasn't sure if it was just that the name couldn't be referenced or they have to cover up anything that isn't IOC-approved.

It's everything, from the huge Ricoh sign on the outside to the badge on the hand dryers in the toilets. I'm not sure if it would carry over onto the casino side of things.

There's a rule with the World Cup where only a particular beer (I think Bud?) can be sold within x distance of a venue. If they apply that to the Olympics that would have to include the casino too I'd imagine. It's all a bit of a headache.

Yeah it's a right pain in the arse, but I don't think they would be able to tell the casino they can only sell a certain beer. Wouldn't it be classed as creating a monopoly?

Pain in the arse for the casino, maybe, but maybe not, as I believe the amount of money generated by the event, short term and long term will put any hassle in the back of their minds.

I think it's places serving beer within a certain radius, so Tesco would be alright I'd imagine. This may not even be a general Olympic thing, might just be for the actual Olympic park itself where I believe they're selling Heineken at the equivalent of £7ish a pint.

Ricoh has been compensated for this by the Govt.

And apparently in the Olympic village all the cash machines will only except visa credit cards. No visa, no money. And only coca cola water to be sold at £1.90, its a fecking joke..

Sweet lord, that Visa one is the edge of insanity. Surely they'd want as many people to have access to disposable cash as is humanly possible?

The badge is covered up because it's a brand and cannot be advertised.

It's similar what they do for tickets to the Champions league final, They'll only sell to those using a master card.

It is the most corporate olympics ever, and forget inclusivity and "legacy" - it is just about milking the last penny.

All the venues, etc. already sold into corporate ownership.

expect havoc, they'll be swapped around, but the numbers on the chairs won't be changed so it'll turn into a right shambles.

I fucking hate the olympics. However back to the subject I thought they were finally scrapping the whole cashless system next season anyway?

i was recently at the Ricoh, the seats are being moved around so not showing sky blues etc, the cashless system is apparently being scrapped to encourage more people to spend money at matches,

The "spirit" of the Olympics died a long time ago. It's like in some of the main complexes in London, only Visa cards will work in the cash machines as they are the "official credit card" of the Olympics.

It's all bollocks.
