Incidentally, '95/'96 was the year of the purple away kit that we wore 6 times and never won in (credit to Jim Brown's blog for that stat) and yet that kit reminds me entirely of someone who hasn't been mentioned on this thread at all.....

I think he scored the equaliser as well in the 3-3 draw we had at home with Wimbledon when both Williams and Shaw were sent off. To be fair after his comedy dfending for the first goal when Williams got sent off he needed to redeem himself.
We were shit then, but a better quality of shit.

(Nice to see at 4.00 the ref giving Dion a pat on the back in celebration at his goal and later Big Ron in his shades:smuggrin

Rennie also scored against us in the 87 semi

Steve Sedgley was 3rd in my list for that kit, behind Speedie and David Smith.

Dion Dublin this one.

I got this the day it came out and wore it every day at school for about 3 months. Obviously in a size that would be too big for me now as an adult as 90's style dictated.

Full kit wanker too.

I remember it well, I think I shouted something like 'OH SHIT'

Met him once, a nice likeable bloke happy to talk football. He was with Peter Atherton who was also a top guy, and John Williams who was pissed and a nob. Met John Williams another time and the exact opposite, a really nice bloke, he was better without a beer!

Still Nuddy for me on this one too, but also reminds me a bit of Paul Telfer which is odd as he's not someone I automatically think of with anything football related!

Stole a living as a footballer. If you're a defender less than 6ft you gotta be able to pass. He couldn't.

there were around 9,000 at that game but the atmosphere was electric after the sending offs.
If I recall correctly I'm fairly sure Nuddy nearly snatched a winner.

edit to say Nuddy chance at the end of those highlights. Still really wish that had gone in!!

It was 12,500. Lowest gate of that season. The average was only 16,000 that season, but they started to rise the year after that and were around the 20K mark for a last 4 or 5 PL seasons.

Remember this one. It was the first season with the new East Stand, in fact my first game in there, on the front row. This was also back when the JSB section was in the East Stand, firstly over by the Main Stand, then up in the corner by the Sky Blue Stand.

Remember Nuddy going through and contriving to miss. I always had it in memory that he put it over... Obviously time has muddled a bit of the detail as it agonisingly went wide.

Also remember the Sheff Weds away game. A few of my mates from school were going and I was offered a ticket as someone couldn't go. Would have been my first away game and I was so excited. Then at the last minute they could go and I missed out. I remember coming home from school and crying my eyes out.

It was on sky though. This was in the first couple of years of Monday night football, and every Monday used to go with my brother, dad and grandad, firstly to Ansley Social Club, then Foleshill WMC, to watch the games and have a glass of Shandy Bass.

Back when football all seemed great...!

Still remember seeing my first ever game on tv. It was The Match, I think itv on a Sunday afternoon. Elton Wesby was the presenter, and it was Manchester City vs Villa. God knows what year that was, I imagine somewhere around 89-90.

I also have very fond memories of Football Italia and have been a fanatical follower of Italian football ever since. First ever game they showed was Sampdoria vs either Lazio or AC Milan. Fantastic. Gazette Football Italia on a Saturday morning was a cut above anything else on to, James Richardson is still the man when it comes to football presenting.

It's always said that Italian media treat their readers/customers with respect and intelligence, whilst the English press treat theirs like idiots, and when you look at the quality of sorts journalism in the two countries they are right. That said, even in the fanatical ends of an Italian ground, there is a greater appreciation of the game and tactics. Most (or at least a far bigger proportion) of people at English games are just clueless mongs.
