Deal in doubt says paper
According to the Bournemouth Echo, AFC Bournemouth boss Lee Bradbury is dropping his interest in Coventry City forward Cody McDonald.
The paper says that the clubs had reached an agreement for a fee for McDonald who only joined City from Norwich in August for a fee in the region of £500k.
But with McDonald, who has scored once for City currently being injured, with a knee injury, The Cherries have turned elsewhere and are looking to land Will Hoskins from Brighton & Hove Albion.

Don't think he has had a chance really, but if we could get rid of him and get someone else in.. I would jump at the opportunity

That's if Thorn did buy him... I suspect that was a behind the scenes deal - (Ken deluded?)

I always wonder if the agents have a good say in these things - i.e agent says "I'll made the deal for 'x' happen (Player sale) if you buy my other player 'y' (bring player in) for £x.xx"

I think i can only remember seeing him play 2 games. One against Ipswich when we first signed him. Got into good positions but off the pace as not match fit. The other was a home game where he just didn't look fit. I seem to get seduced by Youtube - Eastwards goals prior to signing, Mcdonalds goals prior to signing.....they look amazing and then they come to Coventry. ..I will not be looking up Alex's goals on you-tube as don't wish to temp fate !!

I'm a little confused!!

From the few times I've seen him in action, I thought he showed lots of potential, if not in this ,eague then certainly the lower.

I don't see why ROD can be given chance after chance and Cody given next to nothing. I'd even understand if he was going out on loan. Don't get me wrong, he's certainly been underwhelming after the hype of his arrival but I don't think that warrants "in one window, out the next"

I agree with mexico, believe and always have theres more than Thorns fingerprints on this signing ,and his return to the squad coinciding with KD solitary session on the bench,AT has never treated one of his own players /signings in this way.

If the deal was on, then Bournemouth pulled out, I should imagine that he feels really wanted here. Great for his confidence!

Not been given a chance.he's never had a run in the team so no one can really slag the lad off.Just my opinion.

When we (KD) signed him, my mate (who's a Norwich fan) laughed, as he "wasn't even good enough to get into their League One team".

Bizarre. Wasn't match fit at Ipswich, but still came closer to scoring than anyone else that night.

Not played really so don't see how anyone can judge.

Wouldn't read too much into us accepting a fee either. I think we'd accept any offer for anyone at the moment.

Once again, how the hell is everything Thorn's fault??? Permit me to quote you from an interview with Le Fondre in September:

'Adam Le Fondre insists he was right to reject a summer move to Saturday’s opponents Coventry City because he has joined a better club in Reading.

The former Rotherham United goal-machine was a target for Sky Blues boss Andy Thorn, but Reading’s interest ended any chance of him going to the Ricoh Arena.

Royals’ new £350,000 striker has been an immediate hit with fans at Madejski Stadium and is looking to add to his first goal for the club in last Saturday’s 2-0 home win over Doncaster Rovers.

Le Fondre said: “I know (Coventry) had a firm interest in me, but I picked the better club.

If it has, I wonder what that's meant to do for moral in the dressing room, both with the player himself; and the balance of the squad with the stark realisation that if a bid comes in of any magnitude; they're off. Ah, but I've just remembered, it's Thorns job to motivate the squad, yes, and therefore any shortcomings in that regard are his eminent failings. I remember how the minds of some work now....

Will someone ask that idiot tonight how anyone is meant to build any semblance of cohesion and endeavour to escape relegation in the face of a shambles such as this?

Yeah, and Thorn wanted Le Fondre...SISU wouldn't give him more than pennies though, and only coughed up anything after Turner was sold and Parkin fell through as part-ex. By then, the only forward available in our budget was Cody. If you want to blame anyone, blame SISU for their fundamental ignorance regarding how the transfer market works. Not Thorn.

Simple: when he turned up he was unfit. He hasn't shown any application in training to get fit, and allied to the fact that he'd only been a pro-footballer for a few years his state hinted that he'd never actually get fit enough to be a Championship player. "Looks like he's still a builder" and "another Freddy.." are quotes from inside the club.

Lambert exploited our desperate need for a forward, and sold us a duff. If we get what we paid for him (probably nearer 100k than the 300k reported), we'll have done well. Although it's all SISU's money anyway.

C'mon!
Its Thorn's fault! It has to be! Everything is his fault!

Its gonna be cold tonight. I blame Thorn.

ROD grafts, ROD gives a shit, and he is actually proven at a higher level than Cody.

Thorn did say though that McDonald was his number one target.

Did Sisu force hime to say that?

Its naive to think that McDonald was genuinely his number 1 choice. If that was true why were we pursuing ALF up until he chose Reading.

I recognise he's not really played a great deal... but in that limited time, personally I wont lose any sleep about losing him.. sorry Cody, good luck with the Cherries or wherever...

He probably meant he was his number one target*

* of the options made available to him by SISU's bean counters.

....which was probably a choice between Cody McDonald, Keith Chegwin and Emma Bunton

AT said "I have been looking at him for a considerable time and he was my number one choice as a recruit so I am delighted we have secured his services."

It's not naive to believe it if AT said so. He had absolutely no need to use that language otherwise. He could just as easily have said "We've wanted him for a long time", "He has been one of our top targets", etc. Nobody knows what happened behind the scenes - perhaps it was a McDonald character issue - so there's no need to be an apologist for AT.
