Just cause we might play with wing backs doesn't mean we are going to ping crosses in.

Last season we finished with I think Ricketts and rose playing wing backs in the last 4 or 5 matches and I don't remember either of them consistently pinging crosses into Armstrong in those final few games.

If Vincelot, Rose, McCann and gadzhev can all grab 4 or 5 each. Jones and Lameiras 12 between them plus any more midfielders who join then that's a decent return from midfield.

I seem to remember you said something very similar last season about how we were going to struggle to score goals, can't remember exactly what you said but something like you thought Armstrong, Tudgay, Lameiras, Maddison, Fleck, Vincelot wouldn't even score 20 goals between them.

Yes, I did, never expected armstrong to grab 20 or for us to sign Murphy who got in double figures.

The others didn't get to 20 between them

Vincelot 4
Fleck 4
Maddison 3
Tudguy 4
Lamieres 2

I did caveat my concerns earlier in this thread about this season and current squad by saying its still early and still signings to be had. But given what I've seen in the 2 friendlies so far I can see we're lacking in both boxes at the minute

Oh well easy just to hammer me as negative, just like everyone did when we started our shit run post Gillingham last season and I pointed out I was concerned about the form.

you do the same thing all the time, a broken clock is right twice a day

however i do agree with your assesment of this pre season, we need another striker and some cbs as we dont wanna be relying on ricketts and willis.

if we play 352 we need some proper wingbacks/full backs. rose/ricketts/willis wont ge tjob done consistently. spence looked good though. haynes..........really needs to prove if he wants to make it as a footballer. that blunder for goal was terrible.

but overall i remain optimistic. we can expect another 5 players in before end of window i imagine. chances are we will be fighting for promotion again i think.

Yeah, I'm relatively optimistic for the coming season, but think we're still short in key areas at the minute, but there are still 3 weeks until the season starts. I am happy with the signings we've made though.

yeah me too, dont get sordell hate from some idiots already, he looks like sort of player who can do players with qucikfeet, maybe out pace them and even out hustle them sometimes. triple threat.

gadzhev looked good but also didnt do anythign extradoinary. i dont want him to become another fleck who is capable of so much more than he provides most weeks. need to play him in more dangerous position like number 10 possibly

i thought vincelot looked like his old self vs sturm graz, please TM stop playing him ina dvanced positions cos hes shite lol. but as a DM he makes me proud.

lameries again flattered to decieve, need more performances like vs sheff utd last day of season.

jones everytime i see him is quality.

roll on new signings and the season!

If we are playing 3 at the back, we'll be playing 3-4-3 so we don't need the out and out quick wing backs as the width is produced from Jones/Lameiras wide of the lone striker.

Think we have every reason to be confident. Let's see who else comes in first though. Hopefully we can strengthen the squad further.

Nah not hammering you as negative just no point in getting anxious over preseason performances as its irrelevant. Very happy with how our squad is coming together.

Sordell with the right people around him, in this league, could bag a hatful. McCann is a very good signing.

What we need this time out is goals from all over the park instead of reliance on one man.

A couple of midfielders getting close to 10 goals and we could be on to something.

I prefer long term signings ideally, but we have to accept the position we're in as a club, including attractiveness to players, and be pragmatic - we can't afford to turn down players that will improve us.

He's a good player and provides another option, in addition to vital experience.

Exactly. We take what we can and if he's only here til January then so be it. No reason not to snap him up.

Sordell will be a fantastic signing. He was scoring goals in a crap team that got relegated . You have to remember he got injured I think in Jan/Feb which halted his goal run. Otherwise he would have been well into double figures and probably kept Colchester up.

He scored 4 league goals in 21 games last season prior to getting injured, I think he will do well for us but that is nothing to right home about especially when you consider Leon Clark scored 11 in 15 for Scunthorpe who got relegated.

But as with most things, Stu, it is as much about the players you have around you, players who create the opportunities.

Very true, which then brings me back to my slight concerns I have on the current squad and system, albeit with the caveat of its only preseason, and we haven't yet finished signing players. I think people forget how many goals Armstrong and murphy made for themselves. As it stands there's huge pressure on Jones and Lamieres to add a lot of goals and assists between them. Plenty if time yet though, although I'd be surprised if we start off like a rocket like we did last season, when teams underestimated us somewhat.

Colchester did have some decent attacking players, like moncur.

I think in particular what a lot of people didn't notice is that Armstrong used to score a lot of goals just from having a pop from outside the box, rather than clear cut chances (he did have these too).

It wasn't luck, because it happened to often, but I did think to myself bloody hell how many of these would have gone in for anyone else or with better keepers etc.

Didn't Rose grab a couple in his handful of appearances. I'm expecting him to be an important player next season.

I think he will come good.

To be honest, i'd be pretty happy with the starting midfield and strikers we could make out of the current squad. Just need to sort the defense out and everything else is depth.

Yes he scored 2 I think, I didn't include him on that list because we were talking about opinions at thr beginning of last season on the players that were in the squad.

I like rose, he's the only midfielder willing to make a run in beyond the striker and he needs to start for me.

A great goal from Rose towards the end of the season with his first touch from just outside the area, hopefully he can get into double figures this season with a run in the team playing a more attacking midfield role.

I do half fancy her,( rubbing my knees), also fancy Rachel Riley who looks like she would go like the Flying Scotsman at full throttle down the east coast main line.
