If I was youth player, there is no way I’m going Chelsea. Money tempting of course, but it’s a basket case of a club as a player.

Could this be linked to the apparent loan deal we are looking at for the Italian Chelsea midfielder?

Be mad not to go imo, coaching will far surpass anything we can offer, probably earn a decent wage too.

This is the problem. They will often what is peanuts to them while being an amount we can’t possibly match.

What are the stats on players ‘making it’ after these kind of moves compared to the players who stay put. Probably difficult to tell as you’d need to factor in players ability somehow and then how much of that is down to the coaching they receive.

In some North American sports there’s a cap on what you can earn until you’ve reached either a certain age or number of first team games played. Probably unworkable here but you feel something needs to change.

Hmm would I prefer £10k-a-week and not make the 1st team or £1k-a-week and still maybe not make it?

Such a tough decision guys.

That’s the issue isn’t it. Money is near impossible to turn down but is anyone actually looking out for what is best for the players career.

obviously the flip side for us is we’re not L1/L2 anymore so even players staying are going to struggle to breakthrough and get the minutes they need.

Which is why the player will go if they want him but that’s a zero footballing decision. That’s the problem. Unless this lad is pele he’s never breaking into Chelsea’s 50 man first team. Maybe they don’t care anymore. As pointed out, hell get far better coaching which is a plus. I’m torn on it

It’s been pointed out but pathways for youth into first teams now is getting harder and harder because managers need instant success and be battle ready and you rarely get that with kids.

It's something like less then 1% of academy players make it pro, if he manages to land a long contract on decent wages, as long as he's relatively sensible, he could come out the other end at 21/22 set up for life. Having earnt at that age what most people earn in a life time, and he's got plenty of time to pursue other things. Absolute no brainer imo

Let’s face it, pretty much every one of us would jump at the chance.
I hope he’s levelheaded and doesn’t squander his opportunity. Good luck.

Mentioned this on another thread. Chelsea have the best hit rate for players going through their system in Europe. They have more ex academy players aged 25+ playing in the top 5 leagues here and in the top 2 leagues in the 10 best countries across the continent. That’s in terms of total numbers and percentage.

Club A has produced 1 25 year old currently playing in their PL team. Club B doesn’t have anyone aged 25+ from their academy in their first team but has 1 elsewhere in the PL, 1 in the Championship 3 in League 1, 3 in the National League and 6 playing in the top 2 tiers in other countries. Which club is more successful?

Who wouldn’t turn down the opportunity to earn megabucks and set themselves up given the chance, no matter how happy you might be in your current role? Not many I’d imagine.

It's a fantastic opportunity no matter what you think of Chelsea's first team, or even the money. They are one of the foremost academies in this country / Europe.

Anyway, given Adi's connections he'll be back here in a few years.

If any decent prospect coming through gets poached while the remainder aren’t good enough for this league, the academy isn’t worth the expense.

Are you taking hit rate as a percentage or just a raw number? If it’s the later it’s meaningless with the sheer number of players they have.

Also top 5 leagues is an incredibly wide range. If one of our players coming though ended up at Solihull I don’t think many on here would be claiming it was a huge success and certainly not comparable with playing for Chelsea!

Chelsea have youth players on better money than some of our first team squad. Like Man City and others this type of move is about FFP. Most of these players don't play for these clubs they are "fattened up for market" to balance the books.

As I said that’s in terms of raw numbers and percentage. A lot of National League players are earning more than what a fair few are earning in the EFL. If you’re playing in that the chances are you’re earning a decent wage.

That’s the point, it’s always set by tribunal and a pretty nominal sum

0:5M for McCann to utd,no paltry EFL nonsense over a sum per matches played Which could be circumvented by a loan for instance?

£1 million for 17 year olds, then decrease by £100k for every year down. 5% sell on in all cases.

No questions asked
