Genuinely had no idea we had him at youth level and released him in 2010.

Today he signed for Southampton for 13 million

Sums us up really lol

According to wiki he’s 5’9”. You hear a lot that clubs let players who are short go at youth level.

Blimey mate, you know how to bring a bloke down. I'd pay good money to get to 5' 9".

Joined us at 7, left at 14.
Difficult to say who will and will not make it at 14.
We might be better off getting older kids and keeping them a bit longer.

James Madison, Callum Wilson?

We've had our fair share of good youth payers over the years.

Reckon if you look at any club that has a decent academy you'll find players were let go that later came good. Doesn't even mean if they'd be retained they'd be as good, sometimes getting released can be the wake up call.

Agree it's a blow but it's hard to take pot shots at our academy. Served us very well in recent times.

Reality of it is that the club will make mistakes when it comes to releasing academy players, but generally they've done a good job with the academy players.

For every time we release a Che Adams, we must release 50 Ashley Cain's..

Hi Nick

When a player is under 24 and they have come through an academy, i remember reading something that 5% of the transfer fee is set aside for solidarity payments for training for current and previous clubs and that the club's get a tiny percentage of the transfer based on how long they were in the academy for. ie 0.25% of the fee from 12 up to 15 then 0.5% and increases from there. This is on top of any agreement you have in place when he left. Read this a while back

He didn't come through the academy, we released him early on.

Can't see his name, without thinking of that XTC song 'Take a look at my girlfriend' Never knew the lyric that gets repeated, but it sounds like Che Adams. Someone out there will know what I'm on about!

If we chose to release him at 14 I don't see how we would be entitled to any payment whatsoever.
