Fair play to the lad, just out of interest, when was the last time united brought through a youngster and he played in the first team for 5+ years? No one jumps to mind other then the likes of Beckham, Neville, Scholes.

They have a decent record of bringing through talented players but they don't seem to stay like they used to, likes of Danny Welbeck, imo only 2nd to Kane as England's best yet not deemed good enough for united.

Well you've basically got to be world class to come through and survive 5+ years at United these days. That Welbeck is the 2nd best striker in the country and United let him go says more about England than it does about United!

From the CT comments section :emoji_zipper_mouth::

The keyword in this article is “SOLD”.

The Sisu Circus Way:

“SOLD” applies to exiting bright young players

“FREE”, “RELEASED” and “UNWANTED” applies to incoming crocks

… and they wonder why everyone is turning NOPM. Ha!

I'm not, never have been and never will be NOPM.

but their record of building national and international careers for their youth team is second to none in Britain, many Prem teams have United youth players in them - from Ryan Shawcross to Michael Keane; Gerard Piquet and Paul Pogba were both United youth too.

My mate was telling me about this the other night at the match. Utd do have a good record of pushing kids through but for every one that goes to the first team there will be 40 or so who don't.

Saw this on Twitter, followed by comments along the lines of, 'if he's good enough for Man Utd why aren't we keeping him?' and 'Typical Sisu!'

How can people react like that to a teenager that they most probably didn't know existed yesterday moving from L2 Cov to one of the biggest clubs in the world. Good luck to the lad. 50% sell on fee for when he moves to Real in a few years time, please. Then we can add him to the ones that got away list with Carrick and Keegan.

A lot of very promising young players coming through the CCFC academy, but the Charlie McCann transfer epitomises Football today, where the big clubs like United and Chelsea will poach the young talent from the lower leagues and stockpile them in the U23's set up and only the top grade players will make it through.

Nothing you can do in CCFC's position when a club like United comes calling. All the best to McCann.

Indeed.

This is few Ngandu clips player I mentioned.

Part of U18 squads when he was a U13. Played in most of 18s games this season, chance he'll get some involvement for the 23s this season too if he keeps it up

Would be lovely if he gets a few games before someone poaches him from us

also tells us something about how good Pontechelli actually is. Not slating the lad, he's clearly a prospect, but the fact he's not in our first team and hasn't been poached by a bigger club suggests the clamour for him to be in the starting eleven is a bit premature.

Not sure exactly. When Jadon Sancho went to Man City (now at Dortmund) from Watford it was for a fee rising up to 500k

This seems pretty paltry for a player going to Man U - even if they are as yet unproven. The lowest potential value in 5 years time is 0 - the highest could easily be £30m +. 'Rising to £500k' implies that Man U will have most of their risk mitigated (if he doesn't progress they lose only the initial payment). The whole system is skewed in favour of the haves.

So because Premier League teams aren't salivating at him, he can't be good enough for 30 minutes at a Division 4 club?

Always gutted not to see one of our own develop, but fair play to the lad for getting a dream move. Hope we were properly compensated, but considering how shit lower league clubs are treated when it comes to talent being poached, I doubt it.

The reality is the club didn't want to sell him, but football in the EPPP has changed the landscape.
The club gets significant FL funding but basically has to open its doors to all other clubs to come and openly scout our players.
That's bad enough but you also have agents messaging boys 13-14 years old trying to make contact with their parents and when they're not doing that they're sneaking into games to talk directly to parents.
Heads will be turned, players will be lost and the FA will get its desired outcome of all the best players playing together at the "best" academies (top 6 PL)

This is not sisu selling the family jewels, it's what every club outside of that top 6 has to battle against.

Hopefully it will be a good move for Charlie and he doesn't become a statistic in the Man Utd numbers machine.
On the plus side the CCFC conveyor belt keeps on producing outstanding prospects. Massive credit once again should be given to Richard Stevens and his team. In my opinion RS and co and the ones that the club need to be securing the services of.

If at some point they send him out on loan here's hoping he stays in the UK rather than loaned out overseas as the McCann's have a bit of a history of getting lost in Europe.....

Its getting worse......the big clubs are now setting up nationwide community projects and partnerships within education etc.....so we may as well cash in now.....cos in a few years from now, even this meagre income stream will be swallowed up by the corporate game....

Football is shit.
