It's also not really the point some have been making. I wouldn't really be surprised if he was shot by right or left in America, frankly they are all insane in that country. I'm more bothered that i've discovered quite a lot of people in this country support this kind of thing against British conservatives, who frankly aren't even that right wing in comparison. From this i can assume they might cheer if i were to die, if they knew who i was, so its just nice to know where we all stand really isn't it.

Why are you refusing to listen to the countless people who are explicitly saying it is NOT okay.

The question about his daughter was posed as “if a 10 year old girl was raped and impregnated, would you still insist they carry to term”. He said he had a 10 year old daughter. So they said okay if it was your daughter. He resounded “the answer to your question is yes”.

Two things can be true:

1) Assassinations are bad and this should not have happened

2) The guy was a c**t with abhorrent views

I’m not entirely sure how or why it’s relevant, but both this guy and the school shooter in Minnesota seemed extremely well-versed in niche internet speak and memes.

I think its very relevant but at the same time a bunch of middle aged blokes that spend way too much time on the internet on this forum are probably not the ones to point the finger. I think most here, i'm guessing at ages, didn't grow up with the internet on tap which probably helped, young minds are warped much more easily and everyone with kids should be paying attention to what they are up to.

Suspect in Charlie Kirk's killing is identified by officials as Tyler Robinson

Utah Governor Spencer Cox said that a family member of Robinson's reached out to a family friend who contacted the Washington County Sheriff's Office.

No of course not.

But if they're openly racist then yeah they're a c**t and their views are abhorrent.

Hope that helps!

What you're reading on social media is a culmination of a culture war which has been bubbling for years and exacerbated by both sides of the spectrum.

Sadly, this will only serve to deepen the divide not only between liberalism and conservatives, but right vs left right across the West.

Your point highlights the one I pushed either in this thread or the Trump one regarding the left being very much unchecked in regards to the rhetoric and language they push, which needs to be addressed and met with the same outrage and consequence as when the right steps out of line.

Double standards only fuel division and weaken accountability across the board.

I think it’s orders of magnitude more niche and involved than even Sky Blues Talk! (If you can imagine that)

Without meaning to sound too much like some kind of Columbine-style moral panic guy, clearly there are disturbed kids out there whose world views are shaped to an alarming extent by the politics and conventions of message boards and subreddits etc

So if it turns out not to be the case you'd be equally pleased that others are posting 'told ya so'? It's pathetic and it shouldn't matter who the nutcase gunman votes for. I thought better of you tbh.

Much of the USA is genuinely as culturally different to the UK as probably the Middle East is in a way.

I touched upon it ages ago but while people think Kirk's views were abhorrent and outright bizarre, a huge proportion of the American population align with those views.

I do actually echo this.

The other core issue at hand here is the devastating effect gun crime has on victims and their families across the US. On the same day as Kirk's assassination, a school shooting occurred in Colorado.

While impossible without a massive culture shift, the Second Amendment should be repealed. There isn't a logical argument to put forward that can oppose that.

Wouldn't be pleased either way tbh. Just pointing out why it is likely to happen.

If people rush to say this person was x and that is why they did something horrific and spend the next 48 hours haranguing anyone they think is also vaguely x then it would be a fairly natural response that if said person actually turns out to be y that some of those people would be keen to point that out.

It seemed to very much matter to a lot of people on here what the political persuasion of the gunman was until it turned out there was a chance he might not be of the persuasion they assumed.

Case in point, I have restrictions on a lot of things my lad has access to. However the other day he asked to take a photo of me which I thought was odd. When pressed his said "oh nah me mate wanted to see what you looked like" fortunately I'm not a complete turnip and realised he was trying to bypass age verification so he could stream his ps5 games on TikTok.

Who? Certainly not many if any and your now tempered excitement is no better. All it does is further the narrative that both sides are wrong.

Whatever way they want to spin it they were communist.

The whole issue with communism it that it can never work because as a system it's intrinsically flawed.

It breeds corruption and authoritarianism which gives license to the ruling party to control and repress the population, squashes any form of dissent and basically allows leaders to accumulate both wealth and power for themselves at the expense of the general public.

By your own argument I can openly be a fascist but a nice one because I hate Hitler and Mussolini.

Yeah and to be fair my personal view is it doesnt even matter. If they turn out to be MAGA trumpies or if they turn out to be bordering on marxist...it doesn't matter as it doesn't represent either side.

Unfortunately whatever it turns out to be will be fuel to the fire, but just adds to the mental partisan tribalism in the US. Your team bad, my team good.

having lived here for about 5 years now in two stints, i've realised that you can't talk about the "american population" as a singular really. The culture in San Francisco could not be more different to that of say Memphis Tennessee.

If it wasn't for the common language and them shoving the flag down your throat everywhere you could be in different countries

"Robinson was found by authorities and arrested in Washington, Utah, on 12 September. He was wearing clothing consistent to that worn by the suspect in the video footage"

I'm no criminal mastermind but I was on the run from the FBI I'd probably change out of my sniper gear.
