I dunno I'm catching up now via this thread lol.

Either way it doesn't rly matter. My point is some posters don't wanna hear about it if shooter is right wing and say leave it out!

But if left wing it's ok

Can't tell if you're on the wind up or this is a genuine question. We literally had Trump giving a statement blaming the left before anyone knew a thing about the shooter.

It does seem the far left has a lot more of them
loner weirdo types. Maybe it gives them something to feel part of so they are relevant.

The far right you can spot them a mile off, I suppose you know what you are getting with them.

It’s not getting better it’s getting worse, everywhere seems so divided.

You can't trust a word any online grifters say, they'll all 'exclusively' reveal whatever fits what they want it to be and if it's ever shown to be bollocks people have already bought it. Like The Sun used to, except without the need to eventually print a retraction in tiny font on page 3

To be fair, this incident has brought out the worst in a lot of people. Several have lost businesses or jobs here in my city due to instant reaction celebratory posts on social media. America needs to get a grip. The entire world needs to be more civil and humane.
Overall, you guys seem to be a very decent lot. I’ve enjoyed my time here. You seem to be one of the more level headed and thinking groups I’ve encountered. Thank you!

the American media is so consumed with Fox News vs CNN, Left vs right gotcha moments, that human kindness is a lost art.

I've seen people say that this is some big turning point in American history but really fuck all will actually change, someone tried to take Trump's head off last year and it was almost an afterthought after a few weeks. Being accustomed to gun violence leads to being desensitised by it.

While this is true, you have to recognise that in practice, both communism and fascism have historically led to authoritarian regimes that oppressed dissent or minorities in different ways.

Fascism is inherently bad. You can't argue against that. But as mentioned a lot of whitewashing has gone into covering up why communism as a political and economic ideology has so often failed, usually at a massive human cost.

Logistically, to get the system to work and get buy in from the population, you need to get rid of vast numbers of the citizens that don't wish to abide by it.

Wherever it’s been tried, it’s brought famine, mass executions, gulags, and economic ruin.

As an ideology it might dress itself up as providing equality, but in reality it has basically always meant trading one form of oppression for another.
Maybe in places like Russia and China, but in the west? Come on!

We and America have always been staunchly anti Communist and not shy to advertise that. People used to be blacklisted from jobs for being communists. The BBC had a symbol they put on employee records they suspected of being communists so they could keep an eye on them. The security services kept a very watchful eye on known or suspected communists. The likes of Stalin and Mao were definitely seen as bad/evil and that they were responsible for the deaths of tens of millions and were oppressive, executing or disappearing those who dissented.

I don't know what you think the definition of a whitewash is but it sure isn't the same as mine.

By the same criteria there is a whitewashing of the failures of capitalist ideology. It constantly talks up those few that have got rich while ignoring the millions that struggle to get by. It glamorises wealth and oppulence under the pretence that you can have this to if you try hard enough when that is just not true. Many of the richest cities have the highest levels of deprivation. Even the common metric of economic growth deliberately hides the massive discrepancies of a tiny few getting much richer while most get poorer by lumping it all into a single figure.

And for what it's worth, I'm hugely anti-Communist. I think even in its purest form it can't succeed as it's absolutely impossible for everyone to be equal in terms of power, influence and wealth especially when you take human nature and greed into account. And even if you could give everyone exactly the same then you just get a race to the bottom cos if people can't get more by doing more the only way they can 'win' is to get that equal share doing less.

Socialism on the other hand can be done with an equitable, but not equal, share and while there will be an almost infinite number of ways that could occur, and you can reasonably argue about whether it is possible to overcome things like the potential corruption, it does have the possibility of creating a society with a fairer distribution of wealth and power. Not perfect, but better.

Capitalism on the other hand we can see does not do that. It deliberately chooses to value and reward a very small set of circumstances that do not necessarily have any correlation to effort or ability so that a tiny number of people get a lot in perpetuity while most of the people get little. It is an inherently unfair system.

Its nothing new. For as long as I remember, the gaza strip has been on the news for in-fighting. Even when I was too young to watch, understand, or care for the news, I still remember it being on in the background and it would always include fighting in Gaza. I still to this day dont understand it (bar it being Muslim v Jews) nor do I give a shit. So why now, all of a sudden, it has become popular for singers to wave Palestine flags at festivals ill never know. Its fucking bizarre at best!

It just makes me laugh, when you see "gays for palestine", when in Palestine homosexuality is illegal and carries a prison sentence. And people that are clearly anti-Jew, calling others, a Nazi! Its some fucked up, backwards world we live in today! It really is!

Over the years it has changed quite a bit.

At the start, from the 40's to say the 60's it was a war between nations, with territory being gained and lost by both sides.

From then on you started getting Israeli settlements being built illegally in Arab land, with more and more being built all the time in what looked very much like a land grab.

But most recently, especially under Netanyahu, it has become even more than this and seemingly the endgame of the settlement process. It has become an attempt to at the very least permanently displace the people of Gaza and the Golan Heights, in many cases looking more like an attempt to exterminate them. We're seeing an attempted genocide by a country that should know better than anyone the horror that entails. And people are rightly getting increasingly angry as that process escalates, especially when Israel tries to conflate being against Israeli policy and actions as being anti-semitic. They're basically calling anyone who dissents about their atrocities Nazi's! That's going to piss people off and I've certainly found myself becoming more sympathetic to the Palestinians (not Hamas and their stupid attacks which will only lead to bigger reprisals and the abhorrent taking and killing of hostages).

Yeah, that is weird. Like British Trumpers, just dont get it.

I dont want any children to lose their father or a wife to lose her husband, but fuck, he was a racist and misogynistic and pretty much overflowing with hate.

This can never be a watershed moment when you have a Commander In Chief who sows division and hate rather than unity.

You're making me wonder whether I should sell my beautiful Florida waterfront vacation home and warn my fantastic friends over there to lock their doors and watch out for that nasty Iceman.
