Their appeal is today isn’t it? Being under an embargo means that they can’t reinvest transfer outgoings on new players which mean they may not see the urgency in selling the family silver just yet.

So it was Hull today, later on then I guess.

Someone on their forum said the hearing is today but result of it not until September?

Yep, if we were told that £20 million bollocks we wouldn't be considering going back would we.

The meltdown from their fans if he goes for 8 would be quality.

No, but at least they could pay the wages

Strange timing that the manager just randomly came out and said they'd want £20m for him.

Seems like they might be laying the ground for an "undisclosed bid that couldn't be turned down".

I can't decide what would be better business, Doyle for £10m or Hughes for £8m, or if spending that much at CB is the right decision regardless.

Maybe we're just at a point where thats the fee required for the quality to actually change our defence. Which is needed.

If it happens I just hope there are enough pennies left for a RW reinforcement.

This is where I am. I’d see it as a Haji Wright style signing that would be a key part of the spine and earn us as many points. Though if it’s £10m I’ve honestly given up guessing how much cash we have.

We spent about that much on Binks, Kitching, Thomas and Lati combined. Seems a hell if a gamble.

i know the highlight reels make anyone look good but he looks like he gets forward can ping a ball and got a bit of pace, ? could be worth the money ?

Could be system based? When he was here, who would've said that Doyle would suit playing centre back in a back 4?

You say that, but the general consensus is that those 4 aren't really good enough to take us to the next level.

Could equally be a gamble to spend £2-4m on yet another CB no more likely to step above those 4.

From a few clips, he seems to be VERY right footed. Not a criticism, just an observation.

That could be the difference, Hughes being multi-club captain suggests he's got a leadership quality.
Lampard and co might see him as a better primary CB than Doyle, to lead Bobby/Kitch as a pairing and direct the defensive side of the team as a whole.

The obsession with Doyle in our fan base is ridiculous, he was good for us 3 years ago in a system that massively covered his weaknesses, he’s not progressed since leaving and he couldn’t nail down a place in a team that finished 13th last season. Hughes would be a better signing IMO.

We all like Doyle here but if he is 9m and only ever going to be a championship cb then maybe this is a better bet.

Hughes better rated on fotmob last season even despite playing in a struggling team

Can't see any sale of anyone from Hull if they have a transfer ban.

Yeah I’ve never quite understood the obsession. He’s a good centre back, but there are others out there. Just seems another occasion of ex-players being the only players us fans ever look at.

I’m not sure that will really impact them, as I’ve read they’ve already signed 9 players this summer and I think they’ve spent most of the window in the embargo.

It's an incoming ban. It would clearly be ridiculous to ban a club in trouble for not paying fees from being able to raise money through transfers.

It'd be strange if we signed another player the same week we were due to play them, happened with Grimes earlier this year didn't it

I'm calling bullshit - happy to be wrong, of course. I think that kind of money might depend on a couple of sales but it's obvious that we need a quality CB!

It’s obviously not BS. Whether we can get it done is a different matter. There will undoubtedly be outgoings in the coming days/weeks

We might have bid a few weeks ago and moved on. You never, ever know the detail! I don't anyway and I find it's better to believe nothing.

We got a few million from Vik and a few more from Binks, plus MVE’s anticipated exit. I’m not surprised we have a bit to spend but didn’t think we’d be able to go as high as 7-8m.
