Back on track to the original post........ C-C reminds me of the way Chris Kirkland played with his really quick vision of what was happening out on the field when he had the ball. Every time Kirkland grabbed the ball in his hands, he took a quick look and sent the ball up-field to an available player, whether by a kick or long throw. This is what C-C is doing and, as it's been said before, it's working well.

The same Oggy that must have advised us to keep Danny Ireland (groan) on the books for so long? The same Oggy that must have said Burge should start the season?

Not a dig, but he has had some poor keepers to look after in his time! Some better ones too in fairness

I thought his punch clear in 1st half showed how well he reads the game. He also made a few saves and was aware to push the ball to the side away from advancing striker. He is best keeper in League 1 in my opinion.

with the plaudits must come the criticism

lee blurge levels last night, not convincing at all
dropping crosses, failed punches, caught out dribbling the ball, only to try it again(mind boggling) later in the game
and this boy neeeeeds badly to learn penatly saving, 12 pens 12 goals now isnt it?

RCC last night reminded me of Burge on a standard night for him Pipes but yeah RCC had a bit of a shocker minus that 1 great save

Yep last night he was suicidal, he needs to learn when to just kick it as hard as he can to take the pressure of when we are under pressure rather than trying to play it out.

How didn't they get the ball & score when he was tackled & dropped on it!?
Just seemed like the guy had it off him next thing the ball was in RCC arms!

He has quite a decent kick on him, so I don't know why he doesn't just belt it when players are like that.

Not having the penalty save rhetoric that's creeping up and constantly being mentioned on the radio. Keepers aren't expected to save penalties.

He was a bit suspect last night though but still less worrying in goal than Burge.

It's a Catch 22 really. If he boots it up field we are giving the ball back to them anyway, so the pressure is still on us. Playing it out to our own players is my preferred option , although not when they are close to the box surrounding by opponents closing him down. (like when he played Fleck into trouble).

Only thing I would like him to cut out is the drag backs when the striker is running at him. He will get caught out soon.

Oh I agree, but when a player is 5 yards away it is suicidal to try and play a pass.

If for example there is space and it is safe then play it out and keep possession, I just meant when he is being closed down and there's a man by each of our players.

He just needs to balance the need to play it out and hoof it clear. There are times when 1 or the other is the best option, but he kept choosing to play it out. 1st time he's made me nervous watching him. Trouble is, when a young kid sees an experienced pro running back asking for the ball, he may think he's obliged to give it him, even though he is tightly marked.

He'll be told, and will learn (hopefully)

RCC scared the bejesus out of me last night. Looked comfortable until the near suicidal attempt at dribbling past the Barnsely striker, after that he seemed all over the place.

First bad game though, he'll learn from it hopefully.

Needs to learn penalty saving? What are you on about, the expectation is on the striker to score a penalty. If a keeper saves it it's a bonus

Posted a couple of weeks ago that he should stay in the team for 5/6 games then be rested for a week or two. He looked mentally tired last night with his decision making not up to its usual standard. Might be an ideal time to bring Burge back in for the FA Cup and rest RCC for a week.
Having said that he made one great save diving back on himself to claw the ball off the line.

disagree - you need to try and at least increase the odds a little. My granny could score a pen past him (and shes no longer with us)

Hes an ok keeper - nothing more than that

I know he had a bad game last night, but the save he made mid way through the second half where he practically scooped it from behind himself off the line was a top quality save.

I disagree he didn't have a bad game, didn't think he was at fault for any of the goals and made a couple of important saves, he was just a bit sloppy with his distrbution, certain TM will nail him on that.

Exactly and that is why he should be our number 1

I think you need to look at the defender for the penalty as to why he handled it rather than whether RCC was going to save. As for last night (and hopefully in isolation) he had a shocker, everytime the ball come to him it looked like we were going to conceed by either piss poor distrubution which dropped our defense right in it or failing to meet crosses. I hope this is in isolation but he concerned me alot last night.

Not convinced RCC is the solution to our GK problem. Convinced Burge isn't. Could come back to haunt us in our promotion hopes when all our goal-scorers leave. You really need a solid reliable GK above everything else.

Think he fancies himself as an outfield player! Probably just over confidence. Sure TM will have a quiet word and get him to calm down a bit.

Really? Are you judging this on multiple games or just one? He's been good every time I've seen him but wasn't there last night.

Crosses really worried me last night, they looked dangerous with almost every corner, some teams work on that though and Barnsley may just be a set peice team, if I was a scout watching that though it would definitely be an area to target.

Last night may just have been out of character though because he has generally been very good at coming for crosses, maybe the lack of muscle in the air since RJ injury has unsettled him.

I think in RCC defence, we are a very short team, and last night it showed that it makes us vulnerable especially at set pieces so he may have felt he needed to come for everything, then at times, hesitated or made the wrong call

He was a number 10 wasn't he until he found out he had a heart condition or something? Sure I remember reading that in the program. Was told he couldn't play outfield so ended up being the GK when he had a kickaround.
