Remember Pickering having a fantastic game but forgot we had so many chances!

Those highlights showed we played better than I recall on the day. Agree Pickering had a good game, I made him my MOTM in the cup final a few months before, just look at the amount of work he got through that afternoon.

First time I've ever in my life watched these highlights .

To say that city were unlucky is an understatement based off this .

2 poor headers by speedie and houchen which probably should have been goals.. speedie with the keeper to beat big miss too .

Pickering with 2 spectacular chances that was quite unlucky , especially the semi overhead .

Great kit too

I’d had four cans of tennents super before so pretty lit by kick off time, got a coach from the parkstone club and seem to remember a schoolboy game before.
England v Netherlands!

Tennents Extra like Kestrel Super was rocket fuel back in the day.

Wembley was awful for viewing in those days.

Went to this and the Cup Final, but while I have vivid memories of the Cup Final I have zero recollection of the Charity Shield. Apart from the kit, which i thought was ace.

Typical Cov this, innit?
Only the second time of getting to the hallowed concrete cathedral in 104 years of kicking and screaming and somebody has a gripe because they can't see the Cotswolds from the lower terrace.

The game didn't look that bad from those clips, I just remember at the time is was one of the most boring games id ever been too. Mind you if you compare it to the utter tedium of todays prem, it was positively exciting

The highlights are certainly better than the memories I have of that game. I would have said it was quite a dull game with few chances. That said, I didn’t remember any of the chances shown in the highlights, certainly didn’t remember us hitting the bar.
Greatest fact from this game is that we still hold (as far as I know) the record for the largest ever away attendance in this country (possibly the world?) as there were 55k Coventry fans there.

Charity shield games were always a dress rehearsal for the main act.
Even we read the script perfectly!

Was Regis injured? Don’t recall why he didn’t play. Thought the game was boring, but looking back, I think we gave a very good account of ourselves.
