Today, Saturday 7th June, a group of young and old(er) football fans – mostly Sky Blue supporters (although the odd Villa or Baggies fan may have slipped through the net) will stage a charity match at the Ricoh Arena to raise funds for the Mary Ann Evans Hospice.

There will be two matches - the first, kicking off at 2.10, is a 40 minute junior match between Brinklow Juniors and Finham Park Rangers and then the big boys get to play at 3.00. Featuring rolling substitutes there will be a total of 40 players involved each who have paid for the privilege of playing on the pitch previously graced by their Sky Blue heroes.

The match is being sponsored by G Casino who have kindly provided post match refreshments. There will be a stand open for spectators (all welcome) - £2.00 for adults and free for concessions, pay on the gate. Car Parking is free. All profits will be going to the charity.

The Mary Ann Evans hospice is a locally based charity that provides a home from home environment for people diagnosed with cancer and other life limiting diseases. It also has a care at home service, lymphoedema service and offers bereavement help. For more information about the charity go to www.maryannevans.org.uk

Event organiser David Bason said “If you fancy an afternoon watching football at the Ricoh please come along and support this great cause. The standard of play might not be great but it will be fun and will be aiding some truly remarkable people. The work done by this amazing organisation is truly humbling and puts the current dispute surrounding Coventry City into perspective”

This is NOT a Sky Blue Trust event but I thought I would help publicise it as its a great cause and the event is being organised by a mate (and yes I will be gracing the hallowed turf with my sublime skills )

Just a quick report - brilliant afternoon had by all players young and old. Great attendance - around 200 - and most importantly over £1000 raised for Mary Ann Evans Hospice. I may be a sad old romantic fool but it still gave me a childlike thrill to be in the home dressing room, running (well strolling gently) onto the pitch at the Ricoh and actually playing on the hallowed turf although it was tinged with a level of sadness that such a brilliant facility is not hosting my beloved Sky Blues.

I would also like to thank G Casino for laying on post match refreshments etc and all who attended and dug deep for a brilliant cause.

Also there is no truth in the rumour that the original fee for Callum included me as well and was £2.5m but Forest saw my display and preferred to pay £3m and not have my silky skills at the City ground!!!!!
