Why?

You go to work (I assume), are you grateful that you get paid each month or are you entitled to it?

You buy something from amazon, are you grateful that they deliver it to you or are you entitled to it?

I'm not sure you understand what the word entitled means.

The word literally means to be awarded the title!! We win the title, we become entitled.

If you win more points than the other teams you should 100%, feel entitled.

Being entitled is not a negative, it's a product of success and people can feel it if they want.

Functionally, 5-4-1 and 3-4-3 are more or less the same formation…

People getting attached to scenarios usually leads to dissapointment

Look at some of the forum on Saturday getting upset about a night out

Ipswich to miss out on automatics and not go up
Leicester to get relegated
Birmingham to lose every game
Us to get crowned champions and have a massive party against Wrexham, and then go and beat them, subsequently causing them to miss out on the playoffs

The problem is, there is a chance this could all happen!

I can see how 3-4-3 in possession might easily drop to 5-4-1 out of possession. They're not functionally the same though??

Football’s all about having stuff like this to drool over. We only live once, so dream away!

5-4-1 is just more cautious variant of 3-4-3. Just as 4-4-1-1 and 4-2-3-1 are basically the same shape.

You’ve explained it yourself because the defensive shape for 3-4-3 is 5-4-1… Likewise, the attacking shape for 5-4-1 will be 3-4-3. Generally speaking.

The difference is literally how further forward/back the wide players are depending on the flow of the game.

Dreaming is fine

Crying like a bitch when it doesn't pan out is a little different though

Yeah, my only disagreement is that they aren't functionally the same otherwise the shape wouldn't change. Semantics I suppose.

It is semantics because the two shapes are functionally the same:
2 WBs
3 CBs
2 CMs
2 wide players
1 striker

The differences are tactical and situational. For example, wingers may drop deeper if protecting a lead to form a flatter line, vice versa if chasing a goal.

Frankly, formations are becoming less and less relevant because most systems operate v fluid shapes in attack, defence and game state.

Yes, sorry I was looking at promotion odds which obviously includes playoffs. Changed slightly this morning but similar. Not being a betting person I'm not to up on these things. I still wouldn't be surprised if Millwall sneaked into 2nd though.

I think Ipswich will struggle because of their run of games. They've not been very good away and only have 2 home games left. They also have the hardest games remaining especially as they have Southampton away.

Millwall are a big price at 10/1 but Southampton are on an amazing run. If Millwall win all 4 games Southampton can't catch them. Southampton have the best form and Millwall have the easier games. Could go either way.

teams including us these days have at least 3 different shapes in possession - a build up, a progression and a final phase shape

I saw that Ipswich have only beaten Sheff Wed away from home against the bottom 10 sides.

Exactly, to that extent it’s not worth fixating too much on formations because there’s an increasing expectation that players are capable of attacking space and capable of filling in gaps across pitch.

It’s the same as when we defend, nominally, Rudoni pushed up to make it a 4-4-2 shape but we obviously don’t play 4-4-2 in possession.
