Mate i cant understand this mindset , this is why we follow countrywide to see them get back to the top .. without this whats the point in going ?

This will be incredible for us , our kids and our city

I think you can separate the joy at the achievement of returning to the top flight from the experience of actually being in the PL. There are various promoted clubs who have had an actively terrible time after going up.

theres definitely mitigating factors, but football doesn't work like that. The Coates family are not known for patience.

If you don't want to see your team play at the highest possible level, then what's the point? It'd be much better than going back to the days of the 00s and finishing 17th in the Championship.

Yes, their strategy of sacking a manager every 12-18 months is working brilliantly

I've pretty much already accepted we'll go down if we go up. Still want to do it though. If we stay up it will be another huge achievement.

its not - but they haven't changed that strategy since Pulis. they should give Robins time. But this is football. Robins with us was an anomoly. The shelf life of football managers around 18 months to 2 years. Stoke aren't going to try and change that - especially if ST sales drop and relegation is a worry.

Horses for courses I suppose, but I’ve found this season much more enjoyable than many of the seasons when we were struggling in the PL.

Without stating the obvious that is the price of playing in the PL though. The best a good chunk of the league can hope for is mediocrity.

We’ve done him. Played more in his first month and didn’t drop out of the squad.

I understand, but personally I don’t find playing in the PL to be enjoyable in itself. I doubt Burnley fans are having a more fun time than we currently are, for example. Different story if we’re playing well of course, but struggling is shit, no matter what league you’re in.

Sorry but this is nonsense.

Spurs are a fully integrated Premier side. They have gambled big time on making the top 6 and it's gone wrong. Their expenditure on wages well goes against their income. We're hitting the point where the better run clubs have the advantage. All we have to do is keep being a better run club to take advantage of all the gambled that have gone wrong.

Leicester from Premier champions to League One within 10 years? Just run us within our means and we will benefit.

What’s Spurs wage bill? Revenue last year was over £600 million

A Forest season ticket holder has told me, quite recently, that on balance the Premier League hasn't been particularly enjoyable.

He's eternally grateful that he's been able to see them turning Liverpool over with his father. But overall its been pretty miserable once you break through the "best in the world" marketing hype.

I grew up with us struggling in the top league so it wouldn't be an issue for me...... VAR is the killer.... whats the point in going to live games if you can't particularly celebrate a goal in the moment

A better comparison. But also played more than Markelo didn’t drop out of the squad in his first month.

Its genuinely unusual for a new signing not to even make the bench regularly in their first month, unless as cam points out they’ve been loaned back to the club you bought them from.

For comparison, here’s Markelo:

exactly. we got to see the better quality opposition and when we did turn them over it was extra special.

But if you're fans of the likes of Brentford, Palace, Fulham, Bournemouth etc you've often been competitive (all have played some decent football) so it's not really mediocrity despite league positions. I'd take us emulating those sides

Some of them, but there were some properly miserable seasons in there, too.

I'd say I've enjoyed our time since Robins returned more than a lot of the top-flight time.

A lot of the early-mid 90s were pretty grim, let's be honest. I wouldn't want to watch Phil Neal's team again, for example.

I want to to be as high up the food chain as possible, there is an enjoyment in that. Fewer clubs can poach off us and more clubs we can poach from. One of the 20 best teams in the country and in the highest quality most popular league in the world. I have so many problems with the Prem but i can't see why you wouldn't want that for the club.

I know you seem to be a Benjamin Button character on here and rapidly turning into a child on an adults forum but I’d take a wild stab and suggest that he only played one game in 6 weeks before signing so adapting to the pace and intensity of this league will take time.

I don’t believe the initial fee is anything like what is quoted either

They weren’t that grim. Football itself in that era was pretty low on quality but you still had the games when you were against the best that’s on offer.

Whatever his fee was it's likely that a significant amount of it is based on appearances, and other performance related conditions

That’s all there is to it. The Championship is a comfort zone for a club of our size, we could continue in it for many more years quite happily and patting ourselves on the back for winning more games than we lose.

Football should be all about wanting to see your team at as high a level as possible though, imo.

I certainly want us to go up.... otherwise there's no point in competitive sport.

But he's right that the journey is very likely to be better than the destination. Everyone is happy to spout on here that the championship is one of the most competitive and entertaining leagues in the world.

VAR is absolutely dogshit.

Going up carries a great probability that a huge chunk of city fans are going to want Lampard out by xmas if/when we are struggling in the bottom three (although thats a catch-22 because he may well be gone if we don't go up!)

Its great to be going up (we're almost there) but there's no getting away from the fact that the Premier League is pretty sterile.
You’re dead right with what you say, especially about fans wanting Lampard out when we take a few inevitable beatings.
Very important then for people like us and others, to quickly shut them down and make them see reality.
