Looking at that top 6 now I think it’s pretty much set till the end of the season.

I think it could be but it’s the only potential spot if someone outside goes on a manic run now and someone slips. Everyone in the top 6 bar Boro are starting to grind wins now.

Good for us if the top 6 start to pull away tbf. Means more games vs teams on the beach.

As much as 'Stupid Sexy Strelec' posts like he's my long lost brother, 'Hellball' was exactly how we were playing for the first half of the season. It's very, very short memories to characterise us as hoof ball merchants.

Fuck em, they are just massive bedwetters because their team have Millwall and Ipswich breathing down their necks, they were certain they'd come to the CBS and win convincingly, they thought they'd get maximum points at home from Oxford an Leicester but didn't where as we've kicked on again.

Let them think what they want an say what they want, as long as we keep doing what we're doing then that's all that matters, 8 points clear of them is massive and hopefully they lose Monday and the headloss on their forum will be hilarious (even tho I'd love to see the inbreds lose) it's worth them winning to see the meltdown on boro's match thread

By the time we next play, assuming Bristol game is off, we will be the team with a game in hand, or level with Ipswich.
In that time Hull play Ipswich and Millwall....

Wrexham in very good form tbf. Kind of hope they do hold off the likes of Southampton and Birmingham then lose in the play offs.

It's only four points, there are over 30 to play for, and there are other teams involved too. Nothing's guaranteed for anyone. A few loses here and a few wins there and the complexion changes completely. As we've seen.

If the Bristol game is off, by the time we play Preston on 11th Ipswich will have played 3 games, March 3rd/7th/10th, so they could be 2 points behind us, which of course we can then restore to 5 by winning our game on the Weds night.

Kind of my point. They would have played more and still have less points even if they win all 3 games

Yeah, also after they play Sheff Wed on 14th they have a stinking 5 game run, Millwall, Saints, Brum, Norwich, Boro.

I'd rather have the points on the board all day long.

It's all about holding our nerve from now on in. We've got the squad depth and the quality and I doubt that those looking up the table hold very realistic hopes of overtaking us. As a group we are naturally inclined to be pessimistic based on the past but this feels different. Funding a way to win is a great habit.

Wow, just wow! The enormity of what we have achieved in less than a fortnight is just starting to sink in.

If we had lost at home to Middlesbrough we would have been four points behind them and now we are eight ahead, albeit that they have a tricky away fixture against Birmingham in hand.

If, prior to the Middlesborough game, you had offered me home wins against them and Stoke and draws in the away fixtures against WBA and Sheffield then I would have snapped your hands off. Yet here we are, four points better off even than in that dream scenario, and with our confidence and momentum back.

I'm sure that there will be little bumps in the road ahead, for we won't win every game between now and the end of the season nor do I expect us to remain unbeaten, but keep our heads and the big prize is surely ours for the taking.

How on earth has Sergant managed to get a transfer over the line to Toronto for £15.5m at the end of Feb?

Different transfer windows. You can't sign anyone here in who is in contract and then play them, but there's no rules to say that you can't sell. We could buy now but the player wouldn't be able to play until after the season has ended.

Imho, this spreadsheet shows what a great position we are in.
The final column, points required to reach 90, is especially interesting.
In that instance, we can have a modest end of season, and still get promoted, likely as champions (19 points from 11 games).
To put that in context, Wrexham would need to win every game (33 from 11 games).

Ipad Boro said:
There is a lot of truth in this.

In terms of play, we're the most attractive side to watch in the league and are capable of playing football that most of the rest of the league wouldn't be able to match at all.

This has been developed with the players we have in mind and is what we're set up to do. The problem is that when it's not successful, we don't have many players we can long ball it to the head of, barge others off the ball etc, we simply don't have many personel to clog it and win ugly when we have to, which is a weakness.

Ironically we'd probably be set up better to play in the Prem with our style, as most sides we face would NOT low block their way to grab a draw or a win against the run of play. They would go toe to toe with us as their players are quicker and have more skills. Plus their fans would be kicking off at seeing their side play a low block, against a team just promoted from the champo no less, which would work in our favour.

The issue of course is getting to the Prem in the first place There's just not as much "Luton" in us as we'd like, which is a disadvantage.

Playing that way as a newly promoted side is suicide, we’ve seen Kompany’s Burnley side collapse, we’ve seen Martin’s Southampton collapse. Playing expansive football doesnt work unless you invest heavily, its a big difference from a top Championship player to your alright Prem player.
Sides that tend to do the best coming up build a strong foundation and soak up pressure and play counter attacking football.
I think anyone who goes up needs significant investment no one can come up keep their team and style and just stay up

Neither of those teams you would describe as 'expansive'. They arsed around at the back, taking ages just pissing around doing triangles in their own box and getting tackled.

Leeds will most likely stay up having played the sort of football I can get on board with.

Sunderland did very well with their recruitment in the summer and had a decent start to the season which is going to keep them up probably.

Xhaka was the crucial one, the rest not particularly stand out. When he's out of the side you really see the difference.

Insight and analysis generally. I can do 46-35 and 11 x 3 quite easily in my head though so I suppose if all you use excel for is to do basic arithmetic then yes it would be revolutionary (ok that time I did mean to be a dick)

They are what Boro will be reduced to if they went up without major investment, you forget what Kompany’s Burnley were like, Southampton dominated the ball a lot but when they got it forward they did it well. Leeds have been playing the way I’d like us to replicate, but they’re not playing the same way they did in the Championship they’ve had to adapt

Any team that can make a marquee experienced Prem signing that gets promoted has a chance. But that was a great coup by them.
