I thought Birmingham would be smarter with their signings tbh but it's very much a Wrexham on roids model. If it doesn't work out this season they'll be stuck with a fair amount of aging shite with little sell on value on their books.

Even if they do get promoted they're obliged to buy players that aren't really that good. If they think Brady and co are in it for the long term they are deluded.

It's a really strange strategy from Birmingham.

They've done some nice business through bringing in Doyle, Cashin and Osayi-Samuel. But then with their 'marquee' signings, they've opted to target players whose careers are on a downward trajectory, yet will still demand high fees / wages.

For a club that currently has the capital available to spend freely in the window, the direction they've taken is pretty bizarre.

Spot on. Signed players but not a team ready for a long hard season in the Championship. If the younger players are knackered by the end of the season what are the players coming towards the end of their careers going to be like?

Coventry reached the play-off semi-finals last season, but they were unable to get past an organised Sunderland outfit. The Sky Blues have some fantastic talent within their squad, including goalscoring midfielder Jack Rudoni, new keeper Carl Rushworth, and talented wideman Ephron Mason Clark, yet there are questions about Lampard's tactical nous.

His tenures tend to rely on individual brilliance and players stepping up as opposed to rigid tactical discipline, and that approach will get results against many of the weaker teams in the division; however, it may not be quite enough to better last season's finish.

There's a lot to like about this Coventry squad, and with the addition of Kaine Kesler-Hayden and the improvement from Victor Torp, they will undoubtedly be one of the most exciting teams to watch in the second tier. That may just be enough to sneak into the top six.

They seem to be reverting to the Barry Fry school of managing Birmingham City; throwing money at it and hoping something sticks.

I'm half expecting them to put a bid in for Ricky Otto anytime soon.
