If the reports of his huge salary are true he won't be that easy to offload.

Will be one of those deals where it's a cheap initial fee but an insane 40 or 50% sell-on clause, like Boro did for Morgan Rogers.

Aye, there's a hefty sell on clause included I'm led to believe. In terms of asset value, if and when he moves on, even if we get 4M plus for him it's still a profit at least. 2M is a comparatively low risk investment right now anyway, even if he's only been ripping it up at the top end of League One level.

As for how he fits into our squad, I imagine as an attacking midfielder who can play on the left and score some belters, he'll start in Riley McGree's place if he cuts the mustard once Hellberg has had a look at him. Handy, as Riley, whilst an awesome player, is one of our plethora of players injured most of the time, so whilst it's an out and out striker we need foremost (and yet another CB to cover the many crocks) I'm certainly happy enough with this signing.

Strange buy. Looks like one for the future.
Perhaps you have so much money you felt you did not want to miss out.
We were the same with Bassette.

We're not averse to the odd project tbf. Some work spectacularly, some bomb, that's the nature of the beast, but we are at least trying it now with lads that have played to a high league one standard minimum and/or have played internationally at some level. Leo has played for England up to under 19 level (scored 2 goals in 5 appearances which isn't bad for a midfielder) and he turned 20 4 months ago.

Whilst we do have a fair bit of cash lying about to potentially spend, I actually get the feeling he will get minutes though. The FA Cup match against Fulham may come too soon for his registration etc, but if not I'd give him a run out in it. Likely to be on the bench as a minimum against West Brom in 8 days time, how much he's involved depending on the game itself of course.

In a dream world, he turns out to be another Morgan Rogers, in a Typical Boro event he turns out to be another Micah Hamilton (who we could do with loaning out to a League One club tbh), though I'd be more than happy with a player halfway between the two for now.

This is where some context is needed.

M’Boro sold Finn Azaz at the end of the summer window to a divisional / potential promotion rival (Southampton) for circa £12m.

They’re replacing him now with a £2m man who has clearly an excellent grounding at Chelsea and has had a strong half a season in League One. He did nothing last season in League One,

If we sold Rudoni in the summer to Ipswich, and waited till now to replace him with Castledine we’d be calling for Doug’s head.

See, "substancial 6 figures" to me says about half a million.

He's 31 years old so chances are won't have much in the way of resale value unless he hits a purple patch for the second half of this season, by all accounts was decent in the Belgian league, not much to sing about in Germany and most recently in the championship scored just under one in four.

Keep him fit and playing for most of the season and he may scrape double figures for it, just. Sounds like he's in the right bracket for "second striker at mid-table side" level in this league. He could be a whilst not excellent, at least averagely solid buy for Blackburn, providing they use him as second choice, IMHO.

Watford about to sign Edoardo Bove on a free transfer from Roma. 23 year old CM who looks to have been a regular for them a couple of years ago. Went to Fiorentina last season on loan, collapsed on the pitch in December 2024 and as he's had the same thing fitted that Eriksen did he can no longer play in Serie A. Could be a great pick up for them if he's fit and healthy.

Watfords owners seem to randomly flip between backing them and not giving a fuck season to season. They are very strong in the middle of the pitch for sure, not too great in other areas.
I think you'd want to avoid them in the play offs given the individual quality they have.

They have been absolutely flying - as signing like this, which potentially gives them the best MF in the division, could be a huge worry to us.
