I'm not sure what they expected but I personally thought they would be in playoff race rather than straight to autos

Considering the hype, the money and the pre season noise from their fans they are falling well below expectations. Not to mention the absolute arse licking that was going on on here, only for us to be 18 points ahead of them!

Scabby bastards are of no concern to us
They are miles away from being on our level, don't care who says what or how much they've spunked on dross

Also the sort of behaviour you would expect from a team close to promotion and needing a couple of extra pieces to get them over the line ( ie us) - not because your team isn’t performing as expected. Make some crap decisions and get rinsed in Jan because you are loaded just stores up problems for the summer window.

They have different financial rules than most being newly promoted. If they have the funds they can spend them.

They haven't been very good so far but the same can be said for 22 of the 24 sides. They may be mid table but only 3 sides out of the top 3 have a better GD. Any players brought in would be there for next season if they failed in the playoffs. 2 sides that would be strong in the Championship look like getting relegated and Wolves could become anything. Now is the time for them to strengthen and see what happens. There's a long way to go yet for any side to get into the playoffs.

We're not safe yet even though we're 5 points above 2nd and 12 points above 3rd. But there's 7 points from 2nd to 3rd and 7 points from 3rd to 16th which is WBA. 7 points against sides that can't put a run together isn't much over 25 games.

At this stage I can see Birmingham missing out on the play-offs quite easily even if they're still only a short reach from the POs. They've been awfully inconsistent this season so far and I don't see that changing particularly. Even Opta predicts them finishing mid-table.

We'll see what January brings though as I'll expect they'll spend heavily to push for a play-off place. That said, their transfer strategy was all over the place in the summer so they'll need to do a complete 180 on what whatever bizarre formula was/is in place initially.

It's very scattergun in terms of how they've targeted with little thought behind it. They could've gone about their business in so many ways, it's baffling why they opted to go down the route they have done.

January is a window for the desperate and I think more clubs are likely to get it wrong than right, especially if they don't have a solid recruitment infrastructure behind them - which based on previous evidence Birmingham just somehow don't. So, I don't really see it changing their fortunes much even if they do spend well.

The problem with not going up for them is it's a bit of a wasted season if they don't. They've spent a significant amount of money but they haven't actually built anything. Whereas with us we've nurtured and developed our squad for over two years.

Most of their summer signings haven't worked or failed miserably - Kyogo, Ducksch, Robinson, and Osayi-Samuel have all been poor. Gray is the only one that's been somewhat OK. The rest were loans (which have again been poor on the whole) and will return to their parent clubs in the summer.

Their squad is still very lopsided and has glaring gaps which need addressing.

They'll have another massive job on their hands if they don't go up this season. Can they really just keep throwing money at it?

I suspect they get to summer and will go for a new manager and rebuild.

But thats what ffp is about isnt it? Owners cant come in now and spend millions. I thought it was now that a club could only spend what it makes, not what the owner pumps in. To stop the man city's etc buying titles

Because they only came up this year and the rules are set on a rolling basis, promoted clubs have a two/three season period where they can almost spend whatever they like and not get penalised AS LONG AS GET PROMOTED IN THAT TIME FRAME.

If they don't, they're subject to the fines and penalties of FFP.

They are allowed to make quite a lot of annual loss before the rules start to bite. They weren’t in the league last year of course but were the season before, so those figures will also count towards what goes on this season.

Didn't one of the football finance guys, either McKenna or Swiss Ramble, say that they need to get promoted this season or risk fines?

Demarai Gray has scored some crackers but I couldn't have told you a single thing I've seen from the others, Jack Robinson getting sent off and scoring own goals aside.

The only ones i would class as even mildly successful signings would be Gray and Neumann as frees and Roberts and Doyle as loans. That's not to say i think they've been particularly good, i'm actually trying to be kind. It's a putrid list.

When did he join I'm fairly sure when SU played them early season TV game he was fuming on the touchline in his SU kit with that Spanish manager conducting?

Beadle in goal is the same one who got mugged off by Simms at Hillsborough last season right?

They're another team who's away form is tragic. The difference between their record at home and away is night and day, at home they average 2.1 ppg and away its 0.73 ppg. One is nearly automatic promotion form (usually around 2.3-2.4 ppg) and the other relegation form.

If we beat Birmingham away, its a huge win because to be fair them, they're a strong outfit there to date.

Yes agreed, its one of the toughest fixtures we have left. Away they are hilariously shit though, i don't see them as genuine promotion contenders as things stand.

Agreed. West Brom is underrated in terms of difficulty, they're only lost once at home this season but to be honest, it's a game I think we should get a draw from at least. WBA and PNE away are two away games I really wanted 3 points from because our record is bad at those grounds.

In terms of difficulty; Southampton, Blues, WBA are probably our top hardest away games remaining. Watford's home record is also good but because it's on the final day, the result could be irrelevant by then.
