Good. He's had a great start to his career. If he is real deal I don't want him at a rival.

Nearly started a thread called ' The Emperors clothes' but I find it laughable that that agent Romano (?) is touting PL clubs as being in a race for Jobe Bellingham. Regular 5/10 performances for Sunderland, and fans firmly convinced he was being picked due to a clause in his contract meaning he had to play. Their youngster, Chris Rigg, is a far better player, and nothing against Jobe, but he really hasn't shown he can be a PL player any time soon.

Edit: a new article stating that Sunderland might be tempted with an offer over £20m ('kin hilarious - it's probably paper talk, but this really is a joke sum for what he has/hasn't done so far)

Sorry, fuck them. Why should other clubs follow rules if others continually break them? All of them have been in PL recently and have been spolt with parachute payments

I agree. Bunch of wankers who just want to be allowed to spunk a load of cash again.

Leeds = obvious why
Hull - mad Egyptian owner with £££s
West Brom - new owners with ££££s
Swansea - ???
Cardiff - aren't they still under some sort of transfer spending sanction.

Leeds, Hull and Stoke don't surprise me, just a bunch of money spunkers. West Broms new owner obviously fancies himself as something similar.
Cardiff and Swansea I've no idea how they benefit. Just Welshies being bellends I guess.

18 years old, and learning the game. Yet he still got 7 goals last season. He’ll be a premier league player all day long.

You may well be right, but I don't think he is going to be anywhere near his brother (high benchmark, I know) and I honestly believe he wouldn't be even looked at as a PL player at the moment if it were not for his surname. Talk of Sunderland wanting £20m plus is ridiculous imo. Have a look at the Sunderland forum and you'll find that they really didn't want him playing for them last season (and it's not the lad's fault either, he was just overplayed/not up to it - take your pick. There are a lot of players in the PL around that age who are streets ahead of him. Happy to be proved wrong (Edit: full disclosure: I don't want Sunderland getting a shed load of cash!)

Definitely right that Sunderland are trading on his surname, and prospective clubs are more aware. However if I were a buying club, I’d take a look at his brother’s maturity and mentality and be pretty confident you were getting a player who would do everything to reach his potential.

Lots have talent/potential and flounder in men’s football.

Agree, but those that have already made it to the level he already has have shown similar application. Can't deny that his family seem to have given them a terrific grounding.

Turning down Man Utd for Dortmund has proven to be an exceptional decision and not one many players in his position at the time would (or even get to) make.

Agreed; brilliant move by the Bellinghams - I must admit to having followed Jobe's fortunes at Sunderland more closely due to my frequenting their forum. They have been annoyed (putting it mildly) that he has been given game time when he has been so obviously underperforming. As I've probably already stated, it is believed that his contract says 'he has to play' which the supporters feel has been putting the player above the club, and the team has suffered as a result. I therefore struggle to see why there is such certainty that he will make it at PL level when he has struggled in the Championship. I'll happily hold my hands up if the lad 's career takes off, and will watch with interest.

It’s also not necessarily in the player’s interest at that age to be playing all the time in the Championship.

The lad is 18 years old, but already has a couple of years Championship experience behind him. Take a step back and try not to compare him to his brother and you will realise what an outstanding prospect he is. You and the Sunderland fans seem to be expecting him to be the finished article, but given reasonable progression from here onwards he should at least make it as a PL player, the question is more when that might be.

As Guardiola did with Foden, perhaps it’s wiser not to rush these prospects into playing 90 minutes week in week out as we’ve seen plenty of players do before burning out in what’s meant to be their prime.

I don't say that he should be the finished article now, but £20m ??
Compare him to Robbie Keane at a similar age.

Agree - the daft thing is that his representatives had it written into his contract that he had to play, by all accounts.

And he's a very "meh" player, most likely on inflated wages, so suited for them

A very Stoke signing. Happy days if they spunk the budget on more of these.

I do get how you feel and there needs to be more parity. But I also understand why parachute payments are there.

I wonder how you would feel if Cov had got promoted last year, pushed the budget to try and compete but just missed out at staying up?

I doubt you would object to that financial assistance helping us to balance the books, honour contracts and having another go?

I don't know what the answer is but can see both sides of the argument.

I agree to a degree but I do think that the parachute payments continue too long and are higher than ideal . They do tend to encourage over spending with the knowledge that there is quite a significant level of protection if a club gets relegated.

Yes length maybe needs looking at. Overspending maybe? But without it you are at risk of creating a glass ceiling between Championship and Premiership (which is developing anyway).

I am more in favour of promoted teams getting a financial boost to enable them to compete, say a two year grant and that's it.

TBH I hadn't even thought of that but it seems a sound idea. The converse of that though is that possibly Championship teams throw the kitchen sink at promotion and end up financially screwed if they don't go up. I suppose that there is no ideal solution to the money pot beast which is the PL.

The solution is clubs managing their budgets. Along with fans managing their expectations in line with that. Fans are very good at complaining about the cost of things and at the same time have no issues with telling an owner how to spend large amounts of money.

Particularly large sums of money clubs don't have . Too many on here have short memories and those of us old enough remember the ridiculous Richardson "soft debt" quote when he had accumulated shit loads of hard debt.
