Apologies, I meant players. They were pretty quiet last season.

Still think it looks great on telly. Bit more of an occasion. Same with people standing at Wembley.

René and Willy 70 years old: about the brother band in the 1970s

The only football twins to ever play a World Cup final grew up at PSV. René and Willy van de Kerkhof, both turning 70 today, became world famous in 1978. Their strong mutual bond flourished within the team that grew into a tight unit in the mid-1970s under Kees Rijvers, which brought PSV...

If we don’t go up I would like James Bell to go up and take his special brand of refereeing with him.

Bristol are packing all 10 outfield players into their defensive third.
Happy to let Leeds have it 40 yards out.

In the doldrums, I'm not expecting a goal fest from here and it doesn't matter anyway.

Pure ultra coached positionalism as per Pep's teams seems to be on it's way out. You can still win like if you have the best players in ther league but City don't at the moment.

Even Barca under Flick have moved away from this and added a lot more verticality to their player and quickened up the tempo a lot.

The current "hipster" football coaching philosophy is "Bilbaoball", tactics influenced by Bilbao's traditional play that ahs allowed a team who only sign players from the Basque country to be successful.

Iraola is one of the these coaches and it is much more directly, faster and more transitional.

The Bielsa Bilbao team were a great watch with a young Munain and I think Lloriente up top.

I wonder if a team went full crazy gang wimbeldon or John Becks Cambridge how they would do today, basically bang the ball upfront to at least one giant centre forward and sometimes two and put pressure on the opposition defence, I know a lot of centre backs just flop over like Lati and get lots of free kicks.

It’s nothing to do with negotiating contracts - the reason parachute payments were sanctioned was the 3 team relegation - the pay off is the protection those clubs get which doesn’t exist in the Football League.

Yes it was. So are you trying to say it will never happen or they will never try and make it happen?

Go back further. The Brazil side of the late 60s/early 70s and the Dutch ‘total football’ side of the 70s both played football that was entertaining and largely successful.

Pep sucked the fun out of it, but as I said it hopefully looks like outrageous concepts like going for goal more directly and at higher tempo are coming back in fashion.

I have never seen players strike a ball from set pieces like that Dutch team. How on earth did they get such accuracy and more importantly velocity?

Why so many yellow shirts in the crowd, it does look quite effective mixed with the white. I saw a coach load waiting for their bus near to the Holyhead pub this afternoon, most of them wearing yellow.

Outstanding goalkeeping by the Bristol keeper. Collins would have conceded at least 3 by now under that kind of pressure.

No doubt their squad is miles ahead in terms of quality, but the way and pace at which they attack is great. So much more enjoyable than Burnley.

Leeds work really hard off the ball, probably helps when you've had most possession but they're hunting it down as soon as they lose it. I think that's definitely something we've got to improve on.
