On this one , Doug didn’t seem to want to pay the lions share of late loan possibilities, to certainly back up Robins constant “ lack of bodies “ statement .
I know Doug has turned us around as a club , in a very short space of time , but he hasn’t got the football knowledge yet & should listen to our manager etc , when we are in another excellent league position, but ultimately short of numbers .

Just don't send talented players of our own out then, perfectly adequate cover playing at Lincoln!

The reason he is at Lincoln is to gain experience. If he was at our level he wouldn't have gone in the first place

In light of the likelihood of losing O'Hare on a free transfer in the Summer I thought I would look at some of the players our Championship rivals could also lose that we might be able to bring in ourselves. I've left out over 30's as they don't seem to fit into MR's masterplan. Source is the transfermarkt website so blame them if contract detail is not correct

Leeds - Cooper/ Drameh
Leicester - Praet
Middlesbrough - McNair
Millwall - McNamara
Norwich - McCallum
Preston - Browne
QPR - Willock
Rotherham - Rathbone
Southampton - Adams
Stoke - Campbell
Swansea - Walsh/ Wood
Watford - Ngakia
West Brom - Kipre/ Mowatt/ Chalobah

I appreciate Che Adams might be a push given he is likely to have PL suitors but what do we think about the rest?
I’d take McNair, Rathbone, Browne, Ngakia and Campbell that screams a good window and nothing spent as thats a CB, RB, 2xCM and a ST that can play on the wings, just what we need then we can go all out for a Callum replacement

Then our squad would be
Collins / Wilson
MvE / Ngakia
Thomas / McNair
Kitching / CB
Bidwell / Dasilva
Torp / Browne / Rathbone
Sheaf / Eccles
CAM / Palmer / Allen
Haji / EMC
Sakamoto / Tavares
Simms / Campbell

thats solid squad depth, potentially could see Allen out, maybe someone might offer for Eccles or Sheaf cant see either of them leaving, as I know they both want to stick around as long as they can as they love it here and there is nowhere else they wanna be, Sheaf would only leave for life changing money we’re talking quadruple his current wage at least, and Eccles wants to play for his boyhood club. However if serious money like the Gus money comes in they’re gone which it wont due to the style of players they are

When we purchased Mason - Clark , didn’t Macanthony the Peterborough owner , suggest that Doug spoke about another couple of signings that we were interested in , out of Burrows, Edwards or Jade - Jones ….
Personally I would prefer experienced championship players to combat the incoming Burnley’s & Sheff utd’s tactics , but who knows ?

Robins has also said he understands it’s an incremental process. Which it is.

There’s a lot of assumptions Robins has been ignored by Doug which is at best, a half truth.

Had we secured EMC in Jan and had a bit more look injuries wise, we’d be v happy with the squad.

In any case, any loanees we’d look to get need to be better than our existing stock of players. That wasn’t a guarantee.

Oscar Bobb would have been a great signing, shame he was being a knob and messing us around a bit

My Peterbrough supporting mate says it's Hector Kyprianou, no idea if that's right or not though!

He's also a beast.........I wanted him when he was on loan at Cardiff. I'd take him to be honest, although I suspect personality, character counts for a lot when making decisions. No idea if he smiles a lot or not!

Looking at the Premier League players out of contract these are the ones we could probably bring in not saying we’ll get all just ones in our range

Jamal Lascelles (CB) (Newcastle)
John Egan (CB) (Sheffield Utd)
Oli McBurnie (ST) (Sheffield Utd)
Jayden Bogle (RB) (Sheffield Utd)
Charlie Taylor (LB) (Burnley)
Marek Rodak (GK) (Fulham)
Rhys Norrington-Davies (LB) (Sheffield Utd)
Shandon Babtiste (CM) (Brentford)
Max Lowe (LB) (Sheffield Utd)
George Baldock (RB) (Sheffield Utd)
Jairo Riedewald (CDM) (Crystal Palace)
Saman Ghoddos (CAM) (Brentford)
Oliver Norwood (CM) (Sheffield Utd)
Daniel Jebbison (ST) (Sheffield Utd)
Nathan Ferguson (Defence) (Crystal Palace)
Divin Mubama (ST) (West Ham)
Johann Berg Gudmundsson (RW) (Burnley)
Wes Foderingham (GK) (Sheff Utd)
Lucas Bergstrom (GK) (Chelsea)
Luke Berry (CM) (Luton)

That list is absolutely gash and I wouldn’t take anyone off it other than Lascelles

There's some very good League 1 players who are out of contract in the summer; Harrison Burrows*, Herbie Kane, Jordan Williams, Devante Cole, Femi Azeez. *Peterborough have an option for a further year which I'm sure they'll trigger.

I wouldn't mind some or all of them as squad players.

Binks is available for free and so is Kipre from West Brom. That's the defence sorted.

I like the look of Connolly from Hull as a squad player/Godden replacement. He's also out of contract in the summer.

We would then only have to spent money on O'Hare's replacement.

Squad would then be:

GK - Collins, Wilson
CB - Thomas, Kitching, Latibeaudiere, Kipre, Binks
RB - van Ewijk, Williams
LB - Bidwell, Dasilva, Burrows
CM - Sheaf, Torp, Eccles, Allen, Kane
AM - Palmer, New AM
RW - Sakamoto, Azeez
LW - Wright, Mason-Clark
ST - Simms, Connolly, Cole

Starting lineup would then be:

Collins
van Ewijk - Kipre - Kitching - Burrows
Sheaf - Torp
Sakamoto - New AM - Wright
Simms

Subs - Wilson, Thomas, Williams, Dasilva, Eccles, Palmer, Azeez, Mason-Clark, Connolly

Reserves - Latibeaudiere, Binks, Bidwell, Allen, Kane, Cole

Not a bad side considering all bar the new AM and (potentially) Burrows being frees.

Of course, I doubt we will sign many if any of the above but just shows that there are some pretty good players available on free transfers for squad depth which is what we need.

I think we should seriously be looking at Mowatt as the Kelly replacement in the squad, not everyone we sign cap be 21-24 European gem. Seriously quality operator, who we tried to get to replace Gus on deadline day in the summer I believe? With Baggies new owner I wonder if he'll get an extension though.

Why do we need to scout a replacement for our fifth choice CM?
