Kompany doing well tho. Pretty passing is way forward and that bodes well for us too.

They've not been particularly good all season, their underlying data shows their early season form was never sustainable, dragged up by some great individual performances & more than a slice of luck. I wouldn't be surprised to see them slide down the table.

What does our underlying data show?

Blackburn seem to be a really Jekyll and Hyde team when it comes to home vs away as well. They'll go and smash someone at home 3-0 and then go away to a poor side and fuck it a week later. They've been pretty consistent on that this season.

Exactly what you'd expect really. We were never getting battered even in the poor early run but coughed up a lot of easy chances.
From the Middlesbrough game on our defence in particular has been exceptional, barely conceding any chances of note.

Stoke are going to end up sacking Alex Neil by the new year if they don’t sort their act out

Would be slightly embarrassing for him

It’s the same as when Nathan Jones went there, no improvement whatsoever.

Keep chucking lots of money at the wrong players. Maybe give it to us for a season to show them how it's done

They seem very disappointed with Liam Delap, who a lot - me included , thought was a top, top signing.

A physical bully at youth level but looks way out of his depth at this level currently. Just seems to want to fight, commits the most fouls of any player in the league.

I would imagine Man City are pretty good at youth level and they create loss of chances as well.

The question is... is it just slow to adapt, or is this it? His loan spell, for example, could reduce his value so he might be worth a punt by somebody like... us? as a Gyokeres replacement, if we thought we could improve him and get him firing in men's football?

Never really seen him before, but knew he was hot property. You wouldn't think that now mind you!

I get what your saying

As generous as they are financially, I am surprised at how naïve the Coates regime have been since Stoke dropped out the PL

If it wasn’t for them bankrolling them I’m convinced Stoke would have gone the same way as Derby

They'd probably still be a third tier side. It's incredible really, unlimited funds every season and they go out and splash millions on the likes of Dwight Gayle. They could easily go for Hamer/Gyo type signings instead.

They've been linked along with a few other sides with going for Ryan Porteous from Hibs whose contract is up at the end of the season. Still think we should strongly consider him ourselves. Very good stats for a ball playing CB who's also strong in the air

Ryan Porteous wanted by Stoke as Hibs defender sees transfer interest ramp up into 4 way fight - Daily Record

Luton are going to struggle without Nathan Jones.

In many ways there are a club with parallels to us.

Manager that did well for them, left, did badly, returned, did well again.

We’ve followed them up the Leagues about a year later.

Similar budget. Seem to have a fighting team spirit at the club.

I though they would be the team fighting us for 5th/6th/7th at season end.

I do think we have one less rival - no matter who they bring in - that team will be plucked of their best players (maybe by Jones, no way he can go back) in January.

If they appoint Critchley they’ll do pretty well.

Following on from this. If you look at the losses column, and compare to draws, and wins. They look even more bizarre. More defeats than most in the league and not a single draw. Need to have a look at their psychology there.

IIRC their manager has basically told them to go out and try to win every game and doesn’t believe in playing for a draw.

back im the days of 2oints of a win, they would be just above midtable id assume.

3 points for a win is massive. Hence in premier league a draw is like a defeat for most top teams.

Yes simple maths Watford would be above them. They would be 3 points worse off. Back in the days of 2 points for a win.

This thread is interesting. Many naming us as the side that has impressed them most this season, even teams we played early in the season:

What was the Forest Green budget like compared to the rest of League 2, any ideas @Frostie ?

Pretty competitive budget tbf. They did what a lot of NL teams do (or try) to get to the EFL by throwing a lot of money at it. Since being in League 2 I'd guess they were probably mid-table at that level.

Doesn't detract from Edwards as a decent manager though imo. Did really well with a young squad & recruited & developed well.

To late for them IMO. THE worst team we played in the championship. Worse than Brum who were fucking shocking last year, I am amazed that they're competitive this season.

Did they invest upon promotion?
