Folarin Balogun: Arsenal > Middlesbrough (loan, only paying 15% of his wages so £6k-a-week)

Such a misconception that this makes it a better deal than the original proposal of covering all of his £40k p/w.
£40k p/w until the end of the season is approx £700k. They are now paying approx £100k in wages but a loan fee of £1m on top.

Really interested to see how Lewis Baker does. Felt like he was one we could have potentially brought in in the summer. Ah well, back to Poundland.

Just the eight years between his two Chelsea appearances…

It’s a really strange situation with so many there. No real pathway to first team football but many still happy to sign new contracts with them semi-regularly. Expect it forms part of their ‘loan farm’ model.

That will never work - they may have new injuries, sold some of their existing squad. Would the same rule apply to us re: players available on the original date - i.e. if we had someone with Cov-id then, but they are fit on the re-arranged date, they can't play?
I do get why you are a bit pissed off. though!

They’ll quite clearly be in better shape-being allowed to completely take the piss with finances an added bonus

Some of the premier league teams were pushing for this to be brought in to place for cancelled games. Don’t think it will happen though.

Think it was pretty much aimed at Newcastle (Southampton's manager was suggesting they shouldn't be able to field their new signings in the re-arranged game)

If they didn't sign they'd end up signing for a lower league club on lower wages than signing the Chelsea deal and going on loan to them. Then eventually at the end of it they'll have 'Chelsea' on their CV which will probably be enough to get them another deal or two in the lower leagues after.

Does seem weird - a 27yo footballer based at Chelsea for years, that the vast majority of fans have never heard of!

Think that's why the Bristol City chairman was trying to get his 'defence; in, in advance. Have to say, think he's got a crap argument regarding we usually sell players for £10-20m every year but now the market has collapsed, so it's unfair (plus he says they don't want to sell their best players). You can't rely as a Championship club that you will have a player worth that much to sell every season. Bonkers model of business.

Boro and Stoke could be in the scenario Villa and Derby were a couple of seasons ago where they gambled that getting in the PL would eliminate the likelihood of any sanctions. It obviously worked for Villa but not for Derby! Both Boro and Stoke have owners that will stick with them though.

Nah they look pretty fked. I do wonder how they've paid the wages for the last 4 months, the PFA? Just all adding to the debt...

Derby County's best players told they could be sold to ensure survival

Derby County are in serious danger of liquidation if they fail to resolve their £29million debt with HMRC. Players have been told to speak to the administrators if they want to leave this month.

see the darling of some on here Jamie Patterson is playing up at Swansea. Didn't he do this before?
I wouldn't touch him with a barge pole.

The last thing we want is a player who decides it doesn't suit him to play.

Reading The Athletic article he agreed with Swansea to move the the year extension forward but expected a wage increase with it. Surely he’s been in football long enough to know that’s not how it works?

Scored some goals, realised he could earn a few quid more if he wasn't 'tied down'. Bet he wouldn't have complained if he'd been bang average, or picked up an injury - making himself look a tw*t by acting up. Trying to force a move.

Edit: let's try and get him!

They are obviously getting desperate for cash to keep them going he seemed a decent enough player.
