TRIO IN CHASE FOR HUSSEY

COVENTRY City are understood to have received a number of inquiries for full-back Chris Hussey.
Three London clubs * all believed to be in the Championship * have expressed an interest in the attacking full-back, who has a year left on his current deal at the Ricoh Arena.

The Sky Blues could well be tempted to cash in on the 23-year-old who joined the club for a reported fee of £100,000 from non-league AFC Wimbledon in January 2010, going on to make 46 appearances to date.

Hussey has featured in all four of City's pre-season friendlies so far but was replaced by Kevin Kilbane * who can play at left-back or in midfield * at half-time in Saturday's 3-1 defeat by Inverness Caledonian Thistle.

Andy Thorn also has William Edjenguele who can play at fullback and any fee for the defender could be used to help the manager strengthen other areas of the team.

Centre-half Richard Wood is another player who has been linked with a move away, having attracted interest from his former club Sheffield Wednesday.

He would also command a fee due to him having another year left at City and would free up a huge chunk in wages given that he is the highest earner at the club.

Meanwhile, Thorn was delighted to welcome his latest new recruits to Ryton yesterday. Season-long loan signings Reece Brown from Manchester United and Callum Ball from Derby took part in their first training sessions along with two trialists – a Brazilian striker and German winger.

“It was really good to get everyone in,” said the City boss, who also welcomed Cody McDonald and Gary Deegan back to the fold after a week of intensive

fitness training at the club's Academy.
“All the lads were looking around and the new faces. We've got the triallists in and the new boys we've signed on loan in and the squad is really starting to take shape now.
“We have got players who can play football and things are looking good at the moment. “Training has been really good and we've got a game at the training ground today so we will get to have an even closer look at the new lads.

“Callum has come in and he's a right unit * a big, strong boy who gets hold of the ball. We have been working on our shape and I'm really pleased because it has given the whole place a lift. “Reece looks the part as well. He's an athlete, 6ft 3ins and it's what the boys have wanted.“

Ball, Brown, McDonald and Deegan could all get 45 minutes at Nuneaton on Saturday and fans could get a look at the trialists as well if they impress this week.

Hope not. I've always thought he was a great player. I was pleased that AT gave him his chance.

Well, there's nothing to say we will sell him. Just the because the CT print it, doesn't mean it's true.

See i really like Hussey think he has a quality left foot, but for me one thing he isn't (IMO) is a left back i think hes more of a winger specially with that crossing ability. I hope we goes know where. See no hints at names for the German and Brazilian

Need to keep him.

My Dad got emailed from his friend in Greece saying "I hear you have signed a player from the Greek leagues" ( regerring to The Edge).

My Dad: "is he any good?"

The reply was just "No"

Let's hope he was judging on a very high standard.

Think great player maybe overstating it a little. Some of the games I've seem him in he's so far out positionally it's embarrassing, centre-backs having to cover for him all the time.

As somebody said, maybe a winger, not a left-back.

We'll agree to disagree then as I think he's a great little player..

It's funny how many of our defenders last season were terrible at positioning yet it was the goascoring that was the problem

Everyone is for sale.
This is not a criticism, but I think that in the financial position we are in and with the huge number of players available on frees of a similar standard with the possibility of paying our new players less, anybody could go... I don't even think it would take a lucrative offer... it would probably be an undisclosed fee with add-ons.

Totally agree.

Don't know how anyone can say he's a great player.

Still very rough around the edges and for a fullback, defending is not his strong point.

I wouldn't be at all unhappy if he went, as long as the money we received was decent enough.

I know that Aidy Boothroyd saw him as a left midfielder, and he would have got a lot of game time in that position in AB's first season had Hussey not broken his foot.

I hate seeing players leave, and last year was horrendous. However, we are bringing in new blood, freebies and loanees so as long as we keep the squad competative if we need to sell for financial reasons so be it,. At least this year they are being replaced.

Too much turmoil. We've already lost our spine; both CB's, 2 central midfielders in sideways Sammy and Norwood - and lost Platt and Nimely.

I'd rather Hussey stayed really - we're going to struggle to gel as it is.

Well true, but we are talking about the team that got us relegated last season.

The gelling thing is a worry though.

All of our midfielders under AB were out injured with stiff necks after trying to watch the ball go over their heads all the time.

Really hope this is not the start of an awakeningvas to why we are signing players. I will be very pissed off if we nearly get to two decent players in each position then start selling them.

Interesting that it is three London clubs. Suggests to me that hussey wants to go home

Who said I was.

Read it again! I said I don't know how anyone can say he's a great player. I didn't say you can't say that he is, just that I simply cannot comprehend anyone saying such a thing.

Have you got a big bouncy mattress there for when you fall off your high horse there.

To be honest, about 75% of me thinks you are a complete WUM, so absurd some of the stuff you post about.

Let's talk Buzzocks and maybe we will agree on something.

To be honest, the player like hussey that only have a year left on their contract need to be offered another years extension now and if they refuse to sign should be sold. I like hussey, but I would rather cash in on a player than let them go for free. We've let too many leave for nothing over the last 2 years.

Hussey is simply more suited to being a wing back or winger than he is a full back. Play him further up the pitch with fewer defensive responsibilities and he'll be at ease.

Very good point, font just day he has year left so sell him. Offer him a deal first. Put a deadline on an answer. Then make him available. That should be the case with every player with a year left. We the fans would accept that.

Just hope we dont lose hussey, wood and cody now.

Well whatever you think, he's our best left-back. But it's that same story as many before isn't it: year left in his contract, if he hasn't signed an extension soon we have to cash in. I know many will blame Sisu, but we can only pay what we can afford and in L1 that will be less than these clubs. Running a club in our position is all about getting good money for your assets and re-investing wisely IMO.

Only because you have given me more jaw dropping moments in my year or so on here than I have ever had in my entire life.

It's like you are from a different planet.

You haven't touched a nerve, you've just left me in astoundment.
