I remember him scoring against us and him pulling his shorts down in celebration. Prick.

First of our consecutive first game of the season wins against Chelsea.
Passed a big brute of a Chelsea fan outside the ground, moaning at his mate…”it’s this facking place that’s cursed”!

Shame they missed Le Boeuf and his little hissy fit stamping on the shirt the stroppy French c**t.

Twas a great day and hopefully we get a few of those upsets next year!!

I remember another game against them, first game of the season, we won 3-2 and Dublin got a hat-trick.

One of the goals came from a corner; Dublin was stood on the edge of the six-yard box, as he did, and Sinclair was marking him. Sinclair was scurrying around Dublin, circling him, almost as if he was trying to shake him off. Corner came in, Dublin, pretty much stood still, swivelled his head and goal. It was one of the strangest bits of 'defending' I've ever seen.

Anyway, the game when Chelsea forgot their kit is my favourite ever game from Highfield Road. We were fucking brilliant and the atmosphere was raw; so much at stake and it felt so intense.

It was one of my favourite matches at Highfield Road.

As you say there was a lot at stake.

It was just a few days after Princess Diana died, and they played that candle in the wind song before the start. And the kickoff was delayed 15mins due to congestion.

Fantastic atmosphere. The relief when Whelan went through and passed the 3rd into an empty net.....

Although i think my favourite game at Highfield Road for some reason is (strangely) that 4-3 defeat to Leeds, possibly the following season. Another crazy atmosphere, the Leeds fans were playing up and i remember them singing all the way through half-time about "going on a European tour". Even though we lost it was everything great about Highfield Road.

Amazing night, remember shouting that the first goal was just like Shearer's v Netherlands Euro 96, with Snowy in the Sheringham role.

You're getting the games mixed up. The first game of the following season was the one around the time of Diana's death, though I'm pretty sure it was before. This game where Whelan scored was in April on a Wednesday night.

You're quite right.

I'm sure the match above was delayed 15mins though.
