I was there
And the man pictured here scored a goal, deflected off a Wolves defender.
Still the greatest day, even more than the FA Cup, because it was part of a 6 year process that carried on rather than just being a one-off

A match etched in the memory bank. I’m sure it was on Match of the Day whether there’s a copy I don’t know but it was a pulsating match I also think there was lots more than 51000 there too, just a year later we had 47k when we played Manchester United and that was with the Main Stand out of use through a fire.

Oddly enough it was the only home game I missed that season and listening to some of the yobos on the bus travelling back to Nuneaton I wasn't entirely sorry I missed it. They were boasting about having ripped the shirt off the back of a Wolves supporter. (A portent of things to come?)

Worse for me. My dad said I wasn't old enough to go, but I was 15 and a half at the time.

I started sneaking in at about 11 and doing the away games at 14. Used to cost 2p for children on any bus. So 2p to Pool Meadow then 2p to Birmingham. If another bus was needed it was 6p each way. Wouldn't say where I was going and take the consequences when I got home :shy:

Such fabulous memories. Took my (then) girlfriend for her first match got her to make her own skyblues trouser suit. When teams came out she came out with the immortal words "which ones are ours". Still married her and still going strong. Now living in Austria so very rarely get opportunity to see my beloved team so am eternally grateful you all who contribute to this site and keep me fully posted on all things Sky Blue. Will be with you all in thought next Monday. PUSB

Got to ground about 12 with my old mate Bob Sprake, unfortunately no longer with us, armed with autograph books and ST. The queue of Wolves fans stretched from the main stand right down King Richard Street, across Gosford Green into Gulson Road. By 1 o’clock when the turnstiles opened we gave up getting any autographs and walked round the ground and there were queues everywhere. How they got everyone in was a miracle.

1967 was the first season I started going, I was recovering from illness so couldn't go to that game. But I remember being at home when I heard the score, and in jubilation I swung my foot as hard as I could as if to kick a ball. My shoe flew off and smashed a hole in the ceiling. It took some explaining, luckily my dad was a supporter so was in a good mood. (mother wasn't though)

I was there age ten
On the Spionkop with my 12 yr old older brother .
Dad took us then disappeared with my Uncle who had connections to the better facilities of the ground .
Be called negligent nowadays .

I was lucky enough to be there, along with most of the boys and men who had been attending my Aunt and Uncle's wedding reception at the Wyken Pippin - I recall being passed down to the front, and somehow managing to find my dad after the game in all of the chaos!

I was 14 and a half-ish, and mum and dad didn't have a clue.
Me and my mate Gaz got up there before the gates opened (which was early anyway iirc) and stood in the Covered End for what seemed like a lifetime before kick-off.
What a fantastic day though. No idea what the crowd was either. I went years believing the 51,455 line, but eventually realised it must have been much more.

I was there that day as Max Boyce would say, wife was also there a supporter then. I had to tell here what was going on as she could not see the pitch let alone the game. She would not cross the road to get me a ticket now. Thank goodness for the internet.
