CCFC Finance Director
Have read the postings over the weekend till now and kept quiet ....... wanted to see if anything became clearer............ not sure it has. So this is just my opinion
AT ...... nice fella apparently but never met him so dont know...... I have never been convinced he was the manager to take us forward from day 1 ...... I dont beleve he was a good manager. He failed to inspire, failed to match formation to squad, failed to get the best out of the squad, totally failed in getting senior players to perform etc etc. The standards set at the club were just not good enough. It always worries me when the club has to wheel out players to say how good things are, which they did and clearly it wasnt. If they do that I want players saying that the "boss" expects high standards from us, pushes us on, keeps us at the best we can be. Clearly the performance of some, and the desire, commitment and general fitness of all did not point to that being the case.
The squad included plenty of egos that undermined AT's authority...... comments in the media, on twitter, the players going through the motions, etc all said the chief scout didnt have the right respect, wasnt in control in the way he should have been. However did he get the right respect from above either ? But it was always going to be a giant leap for the guy..... no experience and no detailed knowledge of coaching or management ....... no influence on the board, or finances that made the job v difficult...... and AT didnt have the ability to do it here and now.
For me as much as results are important so is performance and the level of performance hasnt been consistent or indeed good for sometime.... is that just down to the manager maybe not but he carries the can. A coach or manager must set high standards for the team but higher standards for himself. He is not there to be one of the lads he is there to do a job, to lead, to succeed
Can we judge him ...... yes of course you can so long as you factor in the restrictions etc ........... even given that my opinion is that AT wasnt the man and never has been. Unlike some that opinion has never changed - but i was prepared to give him a chance once he was appointed. I am content that i got right what i saw as far as AT is concerned
The timing of the termination was a surprise ....... i do not understand the logic... allow the guy to build a team (or was it actually Waggot) ....... go public on the need for time and AT being the man (TF in May i seem to remember) ..... then sack him after 3 games at the start of season when everyone knows early season throws up strange results everywhere and wins you nothing. What is going on at CCFC ........ we stumble from one crisis to another ........ I think SISU are looking for TF and SW to recreate what they did at Charlton, read some of their history you might see what i mean, lots of changes (and i mean lots) under TF & Waggot at Charlton...... not too dis similar to CCFC now .... didnt go up till Waggot etc left though..... :thinking about:
Too much self interest at CCFC...... Wouldnt think TF is doing any of this primarily for the good of CCFC ..... he is a good talker but somehow people have to look past this ..... "AT is the man - We need stability - Talks are on going - the rent will be settled before the season starts - etc " None of that has happened!!! Sorry but he says all the right things but somehow we are still knee deep in crap. Not sure I trust his pained public school boy image, there is a whole lot going on behind the facade he portrays, he knows exactly what is going and there is going to be no transparency to it as far as the fans are concerned
Waggot is being well paid to do the wheeling and dealing - yet gets wheeled out to speak about the finances why? I wonder how the non executive directors have reacted to the cutbacks because surely they must be having tuna not prawn sandwiches? think you might find that they dont like any cutbacks and belly ache despite it being in the clubs interest. SISU step in to address the players, threatening not to honour legal contracts to sell off players who dont agree yet it has taken those owners 5 years to get to grips with things they are expert in - the finances ! Fail to honour contracts to other suppliers also. Indeed I am pretty sure that whilst cutting back on some things they have added in other costs.
AT didnt have the budgets last season no finance - yet this season we have a smaller budget and signed more players. What were the Board doing ? Last season with some wheeling and dealing we could have had experienced players, could have had a chance ..... we didnt but with even less finance this year we can ????
The rent ...... offered a decent deal for a first class venue they turn it down. Because League 1 rents are on average only £100k etc ......... well we dont play in an average league 1 venue...... market value of a venue is not determined by comparison with grounds that simply do not compare to the Ricoh or by taking an average. I keep saying it but this is about a longer term game of getting control of ACL then the Ricoh on the cheap..... not for the benefit of CCFC but to benefit SISU. The Ricoh is at risk.
Stuart Linnell - got to mention him because he has made himself involved. Read his blog from 27/08...... a lot of self promoting drivel that has very little purpose than to try to justify his position ...... yet serves to prove only one thing ..... he is a self publicist with very little to offer
Sorry this has turned into a novel. I feel frustrated and let down by CCFC as a whole. I am not taken in like some on here by the skilled PR of Fisher..... The players have let themselves down...... the directors/SISU are clearly interested in one thing and that is not CCFC ........ and AT just had to go
I am just as frustrated, disillusioned, confused and disheartened by our club as ever and in some ways more than ever
just my opinion...........
