Coventry City 'liaising with family' over tribute to youngster killed in bus crash

Seven-year-old Rowan Fitzgerald was returning from seeing the Sky Blues win when tragedy struck.

Coventry City FC are liaising with the family of Rowan Fitzgerald over an appropriate tribute to the Sky Blues-mad youngster who died in the Coventry bus crash.
Seven-year-old Rowan, who played for Leamington Hibs Under-8s, was travelling back from seeing City beat Shrewsbury Town 3-0 at the Ricoh Arena when the bus he was travelling in careered into the city centre Sainsbury's.
As well as Rowan, Nuneaton pensioner Dora Hancox also lost her life. Rowan's eight-year-old cousin was injured and has had an operation on her leg.
In a series of tweets, Coventry City said the club is "liaising directly with Rowan's family to support them, and to remember Rowan in the most appropriate way.
"We are being led by the family on what they feel is the most appropriate tribute at this time."

Yep, when asked about the weekend they said the family wanted privacy at the minute so that's the reason for nothing being done yet.

Still can't process it at all. Was powerful reading the comments on here about how many have lost children and their experiences. Certainly made me cuddle my 8 year old lad tighter

After consulting the family and the police, the club have issued a statement and appealed for witnesses to come forward...
Coventry City Football Club are deeply saddened to learn of the death of young supporter Rowan Fitzgerald.

Seven-year old Rowan died when a bus crashed into Sainsbury's on Trinity Street in Coventry on Saturday, October 3rd.

He was making his way home with his granddad, uncle and cousin from City's 3-0 win over Shrewsbury Town.

Rowan was a season-ticket holder and a JSB member, and everyone at the club are devastated to learn of Rowan's death.

Having consulted with his family over the past week and the West Midlands Police's family support team, the club will hold a minute's applause for Rowan before our home game against Blackpool this Saturday.

Rowan's family have all been invited to the Ricoh Arena for the game and the club has vowed to support the family in any way possible at this time.

Our thoughts and prayers are also with Rowan's cousin who remains in Birmingham Children's Hospital, and with the family of 70-year old Dora Hancox who was also killed.

The club are also supporting West Midland Police's appeal for witnesses. West Midlands Police have had a number of witnesses who have given valuable information to their enquiry, including a Shrewsbury Town fan who had attended the football match.

If you were in Coventry at around 6pm and either saw the collision or offered help to those injured West Midlands Police would urge you to contact the Collision Investigation Unit on 101 Quoting reference 1017 4/10/15.
