I take it red and green are bottom/top respectively?

That woodwork stat is insane.

Exactly right mate. Except for Woodwork where we're clearly miles out front so green is next highest.

We’re 8 above the average for hitting the woodwork, and 5 below the average for goals scored. If only our finishing was better.

On at least three occasions we scored after hitting the woodwork anyway

Why are we fouled so much?

Teams thinking we’re young and new to the league and giving us a welcome?

Above average for being fouled but only one penalty awarded - O'Hare needs to get in the penalty area more!

Could you please do-
penalties conceded

Interesting stat on fouled teams-Isn’t O’Hare the most fouled player in the Championship?

Confirms that if we do go down, it won’t be because of how many times we’ve hit the woodwork.

The law of averages : hopefully next third of season averages out over a long season. All things being equal.

We hit the woodwork less (hit post go in or just fly in)
Get awarded more penaltys.
Concede less penaltys.
Opposition get more red cards.

Which should all help our plight.

Can remember disaster striking after we hit the post too!

Blackburn started game well. Godden hits Post after 10mins I think. Literally mins later Red card. Game disintegrates.

We're not that much younger than the league average but it's true we don't have any beasts or a dirty bastard. We're a very 'nice' side so there's no intimidation factor to prevent them targetting our players, especially if the ref doesn't stamp it out early.

That said, I think that's a lesser factor - it's more about who they foul and where, or specifically, where our threat comes from and how it is generated.

There's very limited threat in our team with the way we are set up, we are only dangerous on the counter and it's the reason O'Hare is the most fouled player in the league (if that stat is still true). It's not because of how scared they are of him as an individual player but rather that of what little threat we have, the majority comes from him and his direct dribbling. Foul him on halfway, stop the counter = stop Coventry scoring. Stop us playing centrally through our midfield box, force us out wide so we cross the ball into 1 not very good striker.

For a team with 3 CBs we are not even a threat from set pieces either. All season we've just gone for Ostigard at the back post.

Basically need to start going over in the box more for pens and being more clinical... Tighten up at the back.

Some good points there & I will produce some more of these as season goes on to hopefully highlight some other things including how goals are scored etc.

Couple I want to highlight from your post:

- Yes, O'Hare is most fouled player in the league

- We have 0 goals on Counter Attacks so this would back up your opinion there

- We have scored 7 from set pieces which has us pretty much slap bang in the middle of table. Cardiff have an incredible 19 & Blackburn just 3.
This might sound a little higher than you might expect but if you think that things like Hamer's free-kick v Millwall that hit the wall & then he smashed in his own rebound still counts as a set piece goal etc.

Set pieces is an area I really feel we're falling down on. Early in the season we looked a real threat but now they've become predictable & Hamer's consistency of delivery has faltered.

Yep, leave it with me. Most of that is on a to-do list for one of my next Visualisations which is going to be a direct comparison of us v opposition from our games

Both Hamer and James started out with some great deliveries and both seem to have reverted to this ridiculous float it to the far side of the box nonsense that gets us nowhere. Hamer generally is going through a really poor run of form, didn’t look at all happy last game.

Have you got any access to heat maps or the like for player movement/possession/whatever?

It would be interesting to see heat maps of our players to see where they average positioning

Can find on Whoscored mate for a game by game basis. I like the Average Player Position ones too, find them really useful.

Thought we had hit the woodwork 18 times as the latest figure.

Nice one, cheers. I'd be interested in crosses too. Feel we must be right up there in terms of quantity from open play but at the bottom for goals from crosses.

Interesting especially woodwork one, but my tip avoid the pointless 3D graphics, simple bars are easier to read.

Seen people mentioning set pieces, it’s mad how little we take advantage of these deliveries. The one yesterday where three of our players failed to make contact was dead annoying.

The stats kind of show defence needs a bit of work recruitment-wise I imagine. Goals scored I wouldn’t read into as much due to missing personnel Issues we’ve had most of the season; I think we’d have scored a fair few more without injuries.
