There was a connection with Belgrade…. Hence the name of the theatre? Don’t remember the story cos I’m old!

Really surprised to see that. I have an office over in Belgrade and employ around 10 staff there. Have tried to speak to my guys a few times about football, but they all seem more interested in basketball or handball. Was trying to ask some of them questions about Stamenic last week, with little luck.

There’s a Serbian guy who always comments on the clubs uploads on YouTube. Seems to have supported us for over 20 years.

I learnt yesterday that Coventry is actually twinned with Belgrade.

Although twinned with Belgrade in 1957, the link actually goes back to 1953 when the Yugoslav Ambassador visited Coventry and offered a gift of timber from his native country for use in the new Civic Theatre, which when finished was named The Belgrade Theatre.

Belgrade, Serbia - Coventry's twin towns and cities – Coventry City Council

Belgrade - twin city of Coventry
www.coventry.gov.uk

Coventry was twinned with Belgrade in 1957.

Belgrade was, like Coventry, rebuilt after WWII, but this was certainly not the first time the city had been destroyed. The City of Old Belgrade had been fought over by innumerable nations and had been partially destroyed 38 times.

Although twinned with Belgrade in 1957, the link actually goes back to 1953 when the Yugoslav Ambassador visited Coventry and offered a gift of timber from his native country for use in the new Civic Theatre, which when finished was named The Belgrade Theatre.

Built on the site of an ancient stronghold, Belgrade means “white fortress

If we do have a Serbian fan club would they consider leaving a turd on the Red Star Belgrade training ground front doorstep?

My son went on an exchange trip to Belgrade about 17 years ago. He stayed with a family. The dad said he couldn't understand why English clubs didn't buy Serbian players as they were brilliant and so cheap in those days.

I did exactly the same, I was watching the game with my daughter and shouted at the screen that I’ve just seen Coventry on a Serbian flag, she thought I’d gone mad, why would someone in Serbia be supporting Cov she said.
It proves I wasn’t going mad after all. I didn’t see it again after that first time. It’s good to see us being followed in the Balkans. People who follow the big 6/7 clubs can’t grasp why someone from Eastern Europe would follow a relatively unsuccessful, trophy wise, club like ours.

Since reading on from the post I replied too, I didn’t realise Cov was once twinned with Belgrade, so might explain some of this.
I bet our FA Cup shenanigans this year may help add one or two members to the fan club. A very passionate footballing loving part of the continent . Never been there but would love to go
