Can see why multiple city managers have preferred Collins to Wilson.

Lampard wants to play a back 4 playing a high line and I’m just not confident Wilson has the skill set to manage that. Unless Collins’ shot-stopping abilities have completely and permanently deserted him for inexplicable reasons then I think he should start.

I've always said Collins is better and stand by that, terrible form of this season notwithstanding.

I agree but its a low bar. I just hope the break has done him good as his confidence just looked done.

Collins was fine last season, in fact he was a definite upgrade on Wilson when he broke into the team and we went on that good run. Like just about everybody, his form went to shit after the FA cup semi and then he appeared to be ostracised by Robins over the summer.

I agree with this also although for me the turning point in his form was Robins dropping him last season at a point when he was doing pretty well. Wilson was brought in for a truly disastrous spell of, i want to say, 4 games, which were every bit as bad as Collins' low points this season, pretty much every shot going in.
When Collins came back in he just looked different and drained of all confidence. It's clear to me he struggles with the mental side of the game.

he was better than fine, one of the top performing keepers in the league last season

Until he was randomly dropped yes. Not so much after that. It was baffling at the time, i still don't get it.

Ah back to insults even when I engage with you on a level. I'm not signing up to his link, so I didnt gain access. As far as I know only Robins has selected Collins ahead of Wilson and that was last season. Even he started with Wilson ahead of him when here this year, so I'm not certain any actually favour him. That could change Saturday but we don't know yet.

Wonder how we can get him performing back to his best. Weird this exact scenario has happened twice over the recent years with Simon Moores spiral in form as well

One of the things that will definitely help is not getting on his back the moment he concedes a goal he should have saved.
Edit, not aimed at you or anyone in particular BTW.

He could at least help himself by not parrying shots back towards the centre of goal. This habit in particular gets on my tits

I think Collins gaffs often look worse for the camera. Wilson has a knack of making it look like he had no chance but the reality is he's usually just taking up really bad positions and giving the attacker half the goal to aim at. 1 on 1s he usually makes up the attackers mind for them in a "please shoot right this way and score sir" kind of way. Reminds me of myself going in goal in Power League back in the day when our regular keeper was injured.

Those sort of things should be easy to coach out. Hopefully he has been worked / will be worked on.

They are things kids learn when they start playing. It shouldn’t need coaching into someone as it’s just common sense.

Strange, as he came through the Chelsea academy so he must have been rated highly at some point.

To be fair I was a dickhead when it came to Brad earlier on. Think I scape goated him when it was all going to shit in matches this year. Definitely need to shut up on any mistakes and back him at least for the initial run out

Wilson had a great season in 2022/23, but look at our win record on any occasion when he faced three or more shots on target:

P27, W6, D12, L9: 30 points

Whereas Collins:

P25, W11, D6, L7: 39 points

Yeah that's run of cleansheets was more about the back 5 than Wilson. He was rarely called upon to make big saves, as we generally didn't gift teams many big chances.

This also worries me. Even comparatively straightforward saves seem to go back into the danger area a disproportionate amount. Even when he was performing well last year, I never felt comfortable with him, and thought he got lucky he wasn't punished more for this.

I understand there may be a degree of confirmation bias from me here, but I also think it's genuinely something he does.

Yes, some of them were bad and he will know that, but just got to hope he plays ok from now on, he must have at least some ability given his history.

The Burton/Bristol cup game is another one of Wilsons that sticks in memory for many bad reasons
