I’m so baffled as to why people still seem surprised that over 900 minutes of Rugby 7’s in a short space of time takes such a toll on the pitch.

Perhaps because these sort of tournaments happen all the time all around the world. Some hosted by much smaller clubs than Wasps and often as a preseason opener and pitches do not react as badly as that.

Sutton United FC played their first 3 fixtures away last season. They were due to play Salford at home, 2nd game of the season but when it became clear their stadium wouldn't be ready following promotion from the Conference, they had to ask the EFL and Salford if the could reverse the fixture. It was a last minute thing as well from I remember.

Got a lot of time for this one what about Neil White and David Johnson… are they still denying knowledge of Tim kaln’s escapades?

is the geezer from Rochdale still involved?

Agreed. Not for me to doubt what we’re being told but I just can’t see the EFL refusing this if it was at the time of us agreeing the lease and returning to coventry ie we/wasps said ‘look, there is already a contractual agreement with CWG, we might need an exemption from your rules for this ie there won’t be priority for football during this period and we need to play first couple away’

Now if we only asked a few weeks ago you can maybe understand EFL pushing back although even that would appear shortsighted

It sounds like the CWG was already planned before we returned, so it was knew about and there had been an idea we’d play first 2-3 games away. Boddy said he was told we couldn’t do this. It sounds like everyone was crossing their fingers and hoping for the best tbh.

This snippet from that pictchcare article (from March) is interesting -

'2022 looks to be a busy one, with the Commonwealth Games and concert commitments giving just three weeks for renovation.'

3 days more like. Did they not realise that the WC meant an early EFL start? Did they assume we'd have our first few games away? And TBH if Boddy thought it'd be ready in 3 days he was dreaming. Clusterfuck all round.

Just imagine if SISU were to withhold rent over the pitch debacle, that might be enough to finish them off

We don't want a partnership with Wasps, we want them to fuck off, let's keep everything crossed that they go under, and an Invester buys the stadium and buys SISU out.

Interesting, so theres possibility Wigan can be re arranged away if we give them over a weeks notice.

I suspect the brass at CCFC knew there might be issues but have something in writing from Wasps telling them that it would be all good.

Then for them it's a win/win. We either get to play the game as planned and if not Wasps have lied to us and broken the lease so they can take action.

We probably could have rearranged the games with notice but if the landlords say it's not needed then it's their fault if it wasn't arranged.

Shit for supporters but they've basically allowed Wasps to tie themselves up in knots.

“The match official that inspected said he wouldn't have played a League Two game on it, let alone a Championship game"

Would an official really say something like this? Seems another swipe at Wasps

If he did say that he’s an idiot. If a pitch is dangerous then it doesntmater what league you’re in

Yes unprofessional from the official or it’s made up by Boddy for further ammo at Wasps, if it is the case he needs to be careful.

The real reason we can't do this is because we need to the money, we are a club heavily reliant on ticket sales to fund our existence

Just turned on CWR to see if they were talking about the pitch. There was an extensive interview with an expert about wasps. Talking about how, although they are despised they are important and people should have sympathy for them. Also mentioned they’re having difficulties this summer with the hot weather.

In some weird, poetic analogy, it turned out it was about the insect. I did wonder if it was a heavy handed attempt at a psyop.

Yeah, seems unlikely as the standards are the same regardless of which division of the EFL you're in

I believe so.

Just looked through my emails from last season. The fixtures were released on the 24th June last year. Sutton vs Salford was scheduled for 14th Aug but on the 3rd Aug, Sutton contacted me and said the fixture was being reversed due ground issue at Gander Green Lane. So I had 10 days to find them a hotel for the reverse fixture up in Salford. We confirmed it with a hotel on the 9th Aug, the Monday before the team arrived on the Friday.

Given I found out 11 days before the game, discussions with both clubs and the EFL would've taken place before I heard about it.

If we're having to play the game somewhere else I hope Wasps are covering the costs and lost revenue. Hard enough to get people to the CBS for an early round cup game.

Although it's all very embarrassing, and it is. Anyone outside of some social media oddballs who have no idea what's going on can see this is very much a Wasps issue, rather than a CCFC one. If this helps turn public opinion against them (even more) and leads to the possibility of us rinsing them in court, bring on the cancellations I say. Let's batter these pricks.
