If we were to get promoted would we prefer DK go all out to purchase the Arena or invest the Premier League money in the squad ?

Think I would want the Arena and let the scouts have a little less cash !

Would definitely put that sorry story of last 15 years to bed even if he has to overpay !

The non match day revenue. It will at last be under CCFC ownership for which the stadium was built for ! Where have you been

was told an interesting rumour yesterday at the game but not sure if it makes financial sense for frasers though, apparently DK has brought the pitch ....meaning no more concerts played on it....can't imagine that they would want to lose that revenue. Maybe we are buying the CBS in installments lol. Announcement at the end of the season, like i said not sure if there is much in this but thought it was worth a share

Does it make money though?
I'm fairly sure Fraser group haven't turned a profit.
I'd be happy with a long term rental agreement.

Yeah understand that it would have to earn its keep ! I’m just thinking longer term when DK hands over the keys to the next keeper of our club it’s a Much more saleable asset. It does make me wonder how many clubs own their own stadium, a question for another day !

There was a story very recently that said the club had taken over maintenance of the pitch , I guess that’s what it was .

Would Coventry people and supporters spend more money in the stadium if we owned it ?! Would the F & B profits outweigh maintenance costs ?
Why did Ashley want to own it ?! Is he getting his investment back slowly?

I would probably buy food and drink if the club owned the CBS, especially if they improved the offer a bit. A decent coffee would probably tempt me most games.

Exactly this. I know they needed to refurb parts of it but I'd bet they would want to double their money on it. If it's a loss making asset not much point in buying it.
Better to get a 25 year lease as long as the terms aren't extortionate.

I don’t think Mile Ashley and co are into 25 years leases.

How do you know? They have a loss making asset and someone offers them a substantial amount of garunteed money for 25 years. They are very good business people so unless they plan on knocking it down and building something else they are quite limited in what they can do with it.

I'm not sure we do. If it's loss making we are better to lease it if we can get reasonable terms. Unless Doug has a master plan to turn it into a profit making asset. It's over 20 years old now and there aren't many years that I can remember it made a profit.

Still very proud of the stadium and complex though. It looks fantastic from every angle and its more alive now than it’s ever been. Housing has been built on all sides in those 20 years and the free buses are a bonus for many. The F& B offerings lend to a great feel outside , the statues and Commemorative wall make it ours too.

Unfortunately or fortunately whichever way you want to look at it cause of developments down the M6, I don't really think The CBS will be getting many more big name pitch concerts in the future tbh

Villa Park has starting having more, they have got Guns n Roses, Sabbath, Kendrick Lamar and Chris Brown coming up this summer

Birmingham City are of course on about building their own place to host them

Euro 2028 being at Villa Park may open a bit of a window but realistically, how many world renowned artists are going to take their show to a smaller venue in Cov when they could go to a bigger one down the road in Birmingham

Doesn’t the CBS need £5-7M a year in maintenance? Stadiums need upkeep from wear and tear such as the concrete etc.
We’d inherit that by buying it.

in saying that, owning it and having non match day revenue would help with PSR if we ever get to the prem, wouldn’t it?

Would be great to have a 100 year lease and real investment in the surrounding areas to turn the place into a place to be.
But we can only dream can't we

I like that once again this forum is dictating the narrative on the lease situation
I think Doug is playing it absolutely spot on talking about the relationship and the potential partnership but the forum talked about it due to us and it was the bit the press picked out of the notes and have followed up on since

It can wait though till after the next 6 games

Surely all stadiums make a loss?

The non matchday events are just there to try and offset some of it.

In its most basic format (think Highfield Road), its just a premises for the business.
A manufacturer with a factory wouldn't earn anything from the factory directly. Its just a place to produce the product that does make it money

Doug doesn't want the stadium. And rightly so. It costs much more to run than anyone could dream

It's not made a profit in the 20 years it's been here, even with the likes of Oasis, Bryan Adams etc having played here. There's a reason for that. And a reason why the council couldn't wait to fuck it off to Wasps when they rocked up

Frasers will deffo make a better fist of it, but they will soon realise it's a white elephant

The absolute clusterfuck of entrance and exits at the Harry Styles concerts etc have absolutely scared promoters off of using the gaff. There's a reason there were no concerts last summer and none booked in this summer for the stadium bowl, it's basically a laughing stock of an arena amongst that industry

I'm 99% certain we will have the 10 year licence in play by the summer, Doug won't want to pay the fine, Frasers won't want the bad press of not being able to agree a deal with us.

As for long term future, again, Frasers may well want more cash, but they aren't fucking idiots like wasps, they know that the club are now the only show in town for making any sort of profit in the place, and won't be getting rid of us

One big reason is money.

People have an idea in their head that putting on concerts is like writing a blank cheque but if you're renting out the stadium & facilities at a loss in the desperate hope you make it up in f&b sales or even worse paying a huge guarantee that basically requires you to sell out and have everyone drink 10 pints to make your money back, just because the promoter wants to fill in some midweek empty dates between the 'important' shows at the likes of Wembley and the Etihad then you at best make very little, at worst lose a lot.

There's a reason a lot of similar sized stadiums to ours are having a lot less shows in recent years, or shows that are cancelled late in the day because they're going to lose so much money.

Plus now the work at Villa Park has been completed it's a no brainer for a promoter to choose a venue in a city with a much larger population.

There's not really many Rammstein sized bands who want to play stadiums but won't risk the likes of Wembley.

The key to making the venue a viable business is the exhibition hall but you've got the NEC down the road which is some pretty tough competition.

Concerts at the stadium don't use the entrances and exits.

Villa Park seems to have a few this summer, they must have spent money improving their entrances and exits because it was very dated a few years back.

Ashley needs to spend the money because clearly they've lost our this summer.

The truth is , one way or another the Arena has brought thousands of people into Coventry that otherwise would not have visited, whether that be football fans both home and away, concert visitors or exhibition and hotel visitors , they all come spending money in the City and the local tax take and job creation overall would suggest that the Council should in reality subsidise the rental cost for the football club. They owe us big time for their previous misdemeanours and decisions.

I'm not really sure local taxpayers should be subsidising a private business

It’s a community asset and one that brings in a lot of money to the area. The council subsidises plenty more useless fuckers sitting in hotels etc with public money!
