- Failed to achieve long term stadium deal
- Vik and Hamer not signed new contracts
- Season ticket price hike
- No permanent signings in January

Are things any different than with Sisu? I’ve got Doug King on my mind…

Why make a deal at all then? We don't know where everyone is in two months time!

I'm quite surprised to open this thread and see such a negative reaction. Are we that psychologically damaged from the SISU era?

At the moment what is going on within the playing field is of the highest importance, this deal, kicking the can down the road as it might be, enables us to focus on that. At the same time we have some short-to-medium scale security.

New club owners and new stadium owners have come together and sorted a 5 year deal. I'm happy enough with that for now. It also means no Wasps - which is worth celebrating alone.

King has got it sorted, I'm sure he'll get it sorted again when necessary. I honestly think we all need to chill out a bit. SISU aren't here anymore, neither are Wasps, and we've got a shot at the playoffs. There's a lot of reasons to be positive.

Now let's go stuff blues tomorrow and really lift the fucking place.

We could lose all our players and be in league one according to our leader. Hardly inspiring

Yeah, it's a possibility isn't it? You have to plan and have all situations in mind.

Fucking hell, have a day off.

Well we won't in two months

tbf I don't mind him hedging against the worst. I do find it slightly odd his solution is to just sort a five year deal rather than tiering the rent according to division, but there you go.

Exactly.

The fact that we now have a board that considers these things is a good thing. Its what sustainable businesses do.

I think its more to do with King not being completely happy with the deal, but something had to be signed.

He's took a pragmatic approach that we need to have a deal in place

Which brings me back to my initial concern about him not really considering the stadium when buying the club. It's too big an issue to have to sign a deal, any deal just so we have somewhere to play.

A lot can change in 5 years.

The Uni project did seem kinda sensible so we 5 years rather than 10 or longer keeps that option on the distant back burner.

This is good news.

Lots of options.

We get promoted and Doug can take a quick profit if he sells the club.

Frasers can have a quick profit if some Saudi or Yank come in and want to buy both or whatever.

Doug and Mike are businessmen. Profit is profit and opportunity is opportunity.

They’ve got their heads together and thrashed out a business deal.

SISU: watch and learn.

Probably because it's impossible to know where the football club finances and global finances in general will be in 5 years time. Something that looks great now may look completely different in 5 years time

You may be right, but I’d get the sense that MA is the type of bloke who would ultimately sign off any deal like this.

Whoever signed it off would have ultimately had to get Mike’s ok.

Probably. Presumably.

I'm sure the CEO would have given it the go ahead.

Let's face it, taking over shit loads of high street stores would be much bigger and much more complex than a rent deal with us.

Down in Oxford now isn't he? One bad egg gone at least. A few more I wouldn't mind seeing the back of.

Anyway, I don't want to drag the mood down. Not the time to be a miserable sod. It's a big weekend for the club, and this announcement is hopefully just the first step in an amazing weekend!

I don’t see why you couldn’t just put clauses in TBH, same if we get relegated. Well actually I don’t see why our division makes a difference to its market value but there you go.

Yeah, it feels like price is something that could be sorted in a longer term deal with tiering - double with a promotion, halve with a relegation - though I guess Fraser's would then argue they'd be having reduced income for someone else's mismanagement.

Also could argue that any worry about current economic uncertainty and inflation could be solved with agreed inflation-based increase year on year.

I feel it's only five years because of some other term in it. Maybe it just being a licence?

But at the moment the good news is that we know where we're playing next year and we know we're the only users.

Its his job to consider that as a possibility.

Had Brian Richardson considered the possibility of relegation from the PL then we wouldn't have been a basket case for the last 20 years.

All sensible organisations consider worst case scenarios, and look at how the business would cope. Its called stress testing.
Its something all football clubs should do, but I'd wager very few actually look at.

Richardson would have dealt with relegation - that’s why he was chucked out

Why is questioning the structure of the deal being negative?
Have people learned nothing over the course of the last decade or so?

We've got a 5 year licencing agreement, we're in a better position than we were yesterday, but its still doesn't give us great security
I have more faith in king putting that right than I would sisu but that's not really reason to get too excited.

To be honest I have no clue what the difference between a license and a lease is. Seems one of those things that everyone on here suddenly became an expert on the minute it was mentioned

Reads to me like we want a longer term deal but it needs longer to get that in place so this will give some breathing room. Doubt it will mean 5 years of negotiating but if they'd come out and said we'd agreed another year while talks continued people, possibly including the EFL, wouldn't have been happy

Courtesy of Google:-

“A lease is an agreement whereby a tenant will occupy a property exclusively, for a fixed period of time, whereas a licence grants permission for the licensee to do certain agreed activities on a licensor's property.”

The way I read that, CCFC having a lease would prevent the stadium owners from renting it out for other purposes such as a concert. If my interpretation is correct, we will never have a lease and will only ever have a licence.

The main difference actually is the lease is a fixed period regardless of landlord ownership - so if FG sell the buyer knows there is a leaseholder

It’s entirely possible for a landlord to grant the leaseholder exclusivity rights to the actual arena so it would profit from all events there. Would cost more but I’d expect If Coventry were a premier league club to go for that option

That indicates to me that maybe the Fraser group would like to be more involved in the future? Why 5 years?? Dust settles, they see the progress and the income and make their move.

Don't know if it's true but there was talk yesterday of Fraser involvement.
Not a buy out by the group but some tie in with King.
Sounded like the wheels have been set in motion already but we'll see. I think that would only be a good thing and as close as we'll get to reconciling the club with the stadium.
