Not a big car buff, but wanting to upgrade my old fiesta thats served me well.

Got 10k liquid and not really wanting to get anything on finance.

Ideally be good MPG, not breaking down every 6 months, and fun to drive.

I'm 27 with no kids.

Can any of the car experts on here drop any reccomendations?

Have a look at leasing a car. You can get some bargains from £200 a month.

Big deposit though?

I've looked into it but it puts me off.

It can be. But you can now lease second hand cars as well. Also depends on mileage your doing
Example select car lease have a ŠKODA Scala Hatchback 23 done 35k deposit £1600 then £188 a month for 4 years.

So £10.5k.

You can pick them up between 11 and 12 so what's the point?

Yeah unless it’s a much better deal I’d rather own the car outright

Even with depreciation, in a few years it will still be worth a couple of grand.

Still to be convinced about the benefits of leasing.

Leasing is a mugs game, avoid!

If you're looking for reliability and good MPG go for something like a Kia, Hyundai etc. Seat Leon is just a rebadged Golf without the hefty price tag.

Agree with this. Anything VW basically is economical and reliable. If you're not bothered about badges then Skoda great vfm and my last 3 all been skoda.

What you bought Wingy, Skoda or Golf?

I've hot a Kodiak, had Octavia last time but both dad and wife have Skodas now too. 10 years never given me an issue.

What do you consider good MPG? Are you wanting a diesel for better economy? Or happy with a petrol that'll do 35-40 round town?

F56 Mini Cooper S or Abarth 595 for fun cars, decent MPG and won't break all the while. Audi A3, VW Polo / Golf or Seat Leon for boring but sensible choices.

Edited to add Mazda CX-3, Mazda 3 or an MX-5 for some hairdresser fun. Neither will break.

Unless it's a business expense you can write off, it seems like a very sh*t idea to me. Shout out for Berkswell Motors btw, if you're based around Cov.

Yeah even with salary sacrifice you probably need to be earning a decent wedge to benefit.
