Carl Baker was excellent today, beat players with ease, probing crosses retaining possession passing to a colleague his thoughts were to get the ball forward (not a mind reader but that's the impression he gave) compare that to our wide men today especially JOB who was supposed to replace Baker. I recognise that there were financial constraints but to get rid of a player and replace with JOB seems a very poor decision from Elvis. Our midfield was awful today lacking any composure. Our midfield has been awful all year, Elvis has been unable to address this being confident that JOB & Fleck were the answer - when clearly they are not and why Elvis gave Barton another chance is beyodf me he was as weak as a nun's pi$$ in the second half floating around be beaten for fun passing aimlessly going backwards - especially for their first goal.

Elvis solution for our weak midfield was to employ more strikers

Agree completely, but do you think Carl Baker would shine for us this season?

My point being, we've generally been poor all over and I'm not sure if CB would make a huge difference without decent players around him?

Completely agree. Our midfield was woeful again once more. All of them could hold hands in the centre circle and never linked the team togerher.

Our central midfield are poor without the ball. Let mk Dons have far too much easy balls inbetween the lines.

Baker got dogs abuse from us when he was here, especially on the phone in after the games. I never understood why. Sure he went missing on some occasions but always gave a 100%. He had a long spell for us when he was playing with an injury. I think we miss him desperately in midfield.

Spot on Malaka. You'd read on facebook about how loved he was but talk to any city fan or go to any City game and he was quite simply used as a scapegoat.

you don't miss something until its gone, when Regis left in 91 I wasn't that bothered at the time didn't think he scored that many, the first few games of the following season I recognised his contribution was more than just goals. What Baker showed today was calmness and confidence which are midfield lacks as well as actual ability. PS Jack finch isn't the answer either not sure he did anything of note when on just joined Barton in chasing shadows

He's playing in one of the best teams at this level, he wouldn't have made any difference here this season.

Keeping Pressley for as long as we did is undoubtedly the biggest mistake of the season.

Agreed. Look how much we missed GM when he left for Liverpool. Liverpool doing the triple was no accident either.

Couldn't agree more, Baker was excellent today throughout putting in several dangerous crosses, and always looking to use the ball intelligently. JOB by contrast ran around like a headless chicken with no end product. One looked like a professional football player, the other like a pub player brought in to make up the numbers. Those 2 performances should stand testament to Pressley's poor judgement, and while no one could question Pressley's commitment or passion ,ultimately it was his poor decision making that merited his sacking.

I was also impressed with Carruthers, thought he ran their midfield, particularly in the second half. Was glad when he went off injured.

In our team baker would have been dire today.

We have no midfield that press opposition or work off the ball. His role today would have been constant covering and working to provide defensive cover on the right. A job he was always dire at.

Baker was decent for us. I myself went along to the game thinking he was going to tear us apart. However within 12 minutes he had to switch sides as we knew that with him on the left the right back would be exposed and also that he would often cut on the inside where we could crowd him out. So while he isn't Messi, he is a decent player, playing in a side which allows him to attack the full back. Plus they are full of confidence.

That would have been his role if Pressley was still here. I think Baker would have been a great asset playing in our team yesterday.

Well he certainly is'nt the only player that has'nt played to his full potential under Pressley is he.

I don't think anyone would claim that Carl Baker was a Coventry great. However for two years in this league he has been excellent for us both in creating and in scoring goals. He always tried his best and seemed to have a genuine affinity for the club, unlike a lot of players theses days. I am not on Facebook and have never chatted to him online or face to face (although he did sit behind us at the recent Walsall game at Bescot). However you can tell a lot watching someone playing the game and whether they care or not. Anyone who was at Crawley for the first game of last season would have seen Baker appealing to a steward to go easy on one of the City fans who through frustration at our plight had invaded the pitch. He also made it clear that he wanted the club back at the Ricoh and not at Sixfilelds. He was more in tune with the fans than most. If he had scored yesterday I certainly wouldn't have cheered but like a lot of City fans I would have applauded him.(I'm glad he didn't and that we won). Forcing him out was completely wrong. I can't see anyone in our midfield who is better than him. If he had stayed I am certain he would. Have been our best player this season. Short sighted to let him go. Much better to have 1 higher paid, good player at this level than 3 poorer ones who will have zero positive impact on the team Swanson, Miller and Tudgey perhaps.

Well that is it in a nutshell. We get a number of comments from fans about how well Fleck and Barton play, but that is their play when on the ball. A midfielder's role also consists of what they do without the ball and their positional play etc.

Yesterday without the ball our midfield was very poor. A midfield central two of Fleck and Barton always worries me.

Both Fleck and Barton are on the ball types of midfielders and are not trackers, or tacklers, or harriers and neither have great engines either.

I've seen players down here who shouldn't be in pub teams, let alone league 1.

Right now he'd be ideal, if only as an outlet to allow everyone to press 20, not 10, 20 yards further up.

Hutchie did this regularly.
