Just checked and Stephens can play defensive midfield as well as, as a defender. With Vincelot suspended, could TM maybe play him there?

Then Cargill can take Ramage's place alongside Ricketts. Just can't see Ricketts being dropped as he is the captain. I thought Lorentzson looked pretty good at right back too, though obviously ring rusty.

So for Port Vale, the back line and defensive midfield could look like this .....

RCC

Lorentzson Cargill Ricketts Stokes

Fleck Stephens.

Possibly. Looks quite good on paper.

With the 6 loan signings Bigi surely will be dropped.

They are all tough, it's virtualy impossible to pick a result in this league.

It sure is. They've only lost once at home all season which surprised me. Pressure from the teams below us will only increase. We need to stop the rot by gaining at least a point but I'm not too hopeful given our current form and lack of confidence.

Tough game, Port Vale only lost one at home all season I think? I would take a point before the game if offered it.

Possibly too soon to change too many starting faces? Drop Bigi immediately, maybe start JOB alongside Fleck. Good energy, teams don't often like playing against them, he causes issues and he's a serious engine for the team. Back 4 looks much more solid though, just hope Cargill will calm Rickett's nerves a little so hes less chaotic.

There are lots of options with so many midfielders available even without Vincelot (a player like that is bound to take a few suspensions).

Hunt, Fleck, Cole (maybe), Lamerias, Murphy, Bigi, Rose, JOB, Maddison, only 2 loans.

Thank God for that same 11 with only 5 changes this week.

Can't play JOB centre-he's not disciplined enough. TM can't rely on him to play right sided midfield-too many times he goes a-wandering & affects the shape of our team-leaving wide open spaces and encouraging the counter attack.

In went in off Ferguson's beard....

Agree. JOB would be all over the place in that clearly defined, disciplined role.

That's why I said Stephens. He has played there and is comfortable with both feet I would presume, as he started off as a right back, but was then converted to left back and can play anywhere across the back line and also at DM.

Would think he is the obvious choice.

When Rose came on he played much higher up the pitch.

think i would play rose with fleck in middle

maybe go with cargil and stephens at back from off although prob makes more sense to reunite stephens and ricketts with stokes and lorentsken as fullbacks

nice to have some options at back!

I did think that but it was easier than typing out the whole team

Although Maddison has signed for Norwich, will the deal start from the summer? If not, I assume we now need to include him in the 'loans' numbers??

Anyone know?

Stephens is further on than cargill in his development , he was excellent at swindon and should be a shoe in for the weekend at CB

Think we need to leave JM out as much as poss...to get used to not having him as an option, to develop winning ways again without him...and to give Lameiras the break he so deserves!

Why leave him out as much as possible? Why would you do that? You play your best team surely and pick the team that can win you the game.

We can't think about not having him next season, we have to think in terms of how he can help us get promotion THIS season.

If he can do a job and he's professional enough to be up for it, you pick him.

I would maybe just leave him on the bench for Sunday though. Maybe let it all sink in for him, but after that I would very much expect him to be a vital part of our match day squad.

Surely if you're leaving Maddison out in order to get used to playing without him, for similar reasons you'd need to be benching Armstrong and Murphy for Tudgay and Fortune.

Yep.

All the loans we've brought in, let's leave them out!

That wouldn't work, they won't be here next season either

Let's hope that's not true. I predict multi-year extensions for both, with a ticker tape parade to greet the news.

Either way Murphy needs to be dropped so he can evaluate his attitude. I'd go with:

Burge

Lorentzon Ricketts Cargill/Stephens Stokes

Fleck

Rose JOB
Maddison Ruben

Armstrong

for me saturday its
RCC
Lorentzson Ricketts Stephens Stokes
Fleck Rose
Murphy Cole Job
Arma

Personally i feel what Maddison contributes on a match day is overrated, he constantly slows down counter attacks which is what we thrived on start of the season.

Suddenly seems lots of options how about a back 4 of Ricketts, Stephens Cargill Stokes and a midfield five with Lorentzen out wide right Rose, Cole, Fleck Hunt or Murphy, then there's Maddison and Lamieras JOB on the bench with AA up front. That squad should beat any team in our league IF we get the tactics right

That's the team for Saturday, but what line-up are you going to then choose for Sunday you reckon?

We hadn't lost any until recently, now we've lost two, so they can be upset. We need three points, but I'd settle for one. We must not lose though.

Be so nice to get a few goals after such a miserable January. If they can keep Arma quiet we'll be in for a tough afternoon.

There is always the option of three at the back, we have several players who could fit in that configuration?

To be honest, I'd pick Cole over Maddison all things being equal, and as we won't benefit from any game time he gets any more, the incentive to play him is less. Also, if you leave Bigi out we have no-one on the bench for 2 midfield positions.

RCC
Lorentzson Ricketts Cargil Stokes
Rose Fleck
JOB Cole Murphy
Arma

S: Burge, Stevens, Haynes, Bigi, Lameiras, Hunt, Tudgay/Sambou (is Tudgay fit?)
