Is that why Thorn didn't do very well at Kiddiminster too?

Yes he is working under limitations, but he is hardly making the best of a bad situation is he?

You mean the guy that was our player scout that became our manager ?
Who in their right mind would have thought that would work ?
Answer : SISU :claping hands:

And most of the fans....
According to a lot at the time Thorn was only bad because of SISU. Thorn was a fantastic manager who got the team playing attractive football.

The manager is hardly blameless when his team playing the way he tells them to loses so many games. We can hardly give everybody underperforming a free ride because SISU

My point is ................ We will never know how good SP is , because these working conditions wont allow for him to build a team , anybody can pick a team from limited resources ! they dont have choice . HENCE he is damaging his own career stopping here ..

Most of the fans. Even when he was clearly a useless manager they still defended him. There was even talk of him one day managing England. hahahaha!

Southampton appointed a former physiotherapist, who won them two promotions...

Previous job is not as relevant as the capability to do the job.

No. It's a difficult balance to get however because clearly the club's rotten. We can't appoint quite so many bad managers quite so often and, if we did, then the group appointing them clearly don't know what they're doing!

A 'free ride' would mean the players switch off though. tbh I don't envy anybody trying to motivate our players given the state of the club and Pressley probably used up his us v the world schtick first half of last season.

Surely a better manager would make the best of a bad situation? He has signed players, he built his team then changed the playing style.

I could be a manager with unlimited money.

Most managers work under constraints. To excuse him totally is a complete misstep.

A bit of truth in that. At the moment SP should walk and he has a chance of getting a job elsewhere. He has an excuse - no money, uncertainty etc.
Di Canio did well under tough circumstances at Swindon and then went to Sumderland, had support and resource and got found out.
Thorn got another chance with the SISU excuse and then failed.
For that reason, if I were SP I would leave and start afresh elsewhere while he can. I think he knows that it is his fault (reading LVG books and Jose M books and thinking 352 is the answer) that we are where we are, he can ditch that, start elsewhere and he may be okay. The other option is that he loses any credibility staying here.

Perversely, coming to CCFC is an attractive job for a manager looking to rebuild his career - if he fails, he has an excuse. If he fails at say Brum or anywhere where there are funds, then any other club is less likely to hire them In the future. If they are a success then they have a chance at a bigger club.

Point of Order, but Di Canio was given a King's Ransom, relatively speaking, to spend at Swindon.

he then managed to sign and fall out with umpteen strikers, and nearly drive the club to bankruptcy. At least when Pressley signs 43 new forwards to fail dismally, they tend to be cheap!

Point taken, I offer as evidence Mark Robins whilst here, anyone at Portsmouth over the past 5 years, Peter Reid whilst at Leeds and so on.

I think that Your Honour gets the gist so to speak.

Many fans wanted Thorn to get the job, he was the popular choice at the time and the people in charge listened to that.

That's true. Didn't we have Robins lined up at the time? Cannot help but think that we would still be in champ were SISU to have not listened to fans

Bizarre but true.

Robins was definitely linked with us at some point while he was with Barnsley, I remember reading that he was Ray Ranson's target even though we had a manager installed at the time.

EDIT: May '11, when Ranson was being rumoured to return as part of some consortium - http://www.football.co.uk/coventry_...n_robins_rss1659627.shtml#WJl6fvVZ2jKjimOG.97

He was happy to sign a four year contract, with constraints he was fully aware of by now. Supporters are quite rightly questioning his intentions regarding the best interests of the club.

We will never know how bad the constraints are that SP is working under and how much Waggott has influence over sigings but from my observationsbility

Chaotic team building second half of last season - revolving door of players no stability for 2014/15 season
Not physical enough we are clearly too small to effectively compete
The system isn't working 532
Signed strikers who haven't scored goals in the last seasons
Signed midfielders who don't score either

I agree. I like Pressley, I think his intentions are honest and I think he has promise. However that does not mean he isn't accountable. But not the only person accountable. I have pointed out player responsibility on another thread.

i was glad he got a new contract, but a 4 year one in our situation was laughable. That is the fault of our owners who gave the likes of Bell a long contract.

He should of had two years. If all is going well after 12 months rip it up and give him another two years, repeat as required.

Some fans say Pressley is clueless. He is not. Remember the ship is being steered from the bridge not the engine room.
The club set up has to support the manager, any manager to do the job. Our club does not do that, direction comes from the top in a business not the middle management.

This isnt a bash at SISU thread. But they have to get it right. Everyone one, whatever their position in the club need realistic short and long term goals. There has to be a plan and an achievable mission everyone can work towards. The fans might start to believe then also. SISU have to outline an achievable mission and business plan.

Pressley is under no greater limitations that the majority of managers in this league.

He just hasn't been as lucky this season as last.
