Prosiect Cymru: Welsh EFL clubs seek FA approval for Europe plan

The FAW seeks approval from the FA for plans for Wales' EFL clubs to enter the Welsh League Cup and compete for a place in Europe.
www.bbc.co.uk

It would seem the four Welsh clubs are intent on having their cake and also eating it, by deciding they want to be Welsh all of a sudden and play in their version of the League Cup as an easy route into Europe

Of course a potential knock on effect for ourselves and other Championship clubs is that participation in European competition could make Cardiff, Swansea and potentially Wrexham if promoted much stronger outfits, bigger budgets and the ability to attract better players through being in Europe etc.

Pretty shameful in my opinion, they should either be signed up to all the English comps or all the Welsh ones imo, not be able to flip flap between the two - Waiting on approval from the English FA, who if they have any backbone will put the block on this immediately

If they want that then they should enter the Welsh league system properly

But it's not as simple as that, they want to continue playing in the EFL as well as participating in the Welsh Cup

Then it's only fair if interested English teams can do the same.

Let's have a devolved Midlands Cup with Villa, Brum and the Black Country sides and have the winner qualify for the Europa League

I think there's scope to have a Coventry Cup actually.

That's what I mean. If they want to play in that, off they go.

I read another article on this that wasn't basically PR by the Welsh FA and the EFL and EFL are not happy so it maybe not as close as the article above would make you think.

Quite a lot of delusion from each of them to the level of interest in them if they qualified for Europe. TNS don't have a huge fan base despite qualifying a few times.

We should just have a British league system to see Plymouth go up to Ross County

English teams used to play in the Welsh cup. Shrewsbury were the last English team to win it.

Actually wouldn't mind a cup format that includes Scottish teams as well, could be interesting (at least for a few years)

Prosiect Cymru: English FA rejects Welsh EFL clubs' European plan

The FA has rejected proposals for Wales' four English Football League clubs to qualify for Europe via a Welsh domestic cup.
www.bbc.co.uk

Told to do one, like the FA saying it's up to Cardiff etc. which league system they play in.

Does that read they’ll not try to qualify via the English cups but are happy to switch the qualifying via the league if they get promoted…

someone wants their cake and to eat it

TBH with you it'd probably sell well for the Disney boys if they had Wrexham as the Champions of Wales, the dozo yanks would be thinking how great it was

Chuck them out of the F.A. Cup? They’ll struggle to compete in Europe and fulfil 46 fixtures in the league anyway.

Throw them out of the English leagues entirely for asking it.
