this place gets weirder by the minute. Today was shite and there is a long list of terms that could be used to describe how they played, but “they didn’t try” is not one of them.

I don’t even think they’re half as bad as people are making out- something is rotten in there but it’s not that they’re all just rubbish.

Yeah, so we're in agreement then?

Just got back from the game, few thoughts:

- Whilst I like him, Bobby T was atrocious in the first half, credit to him coming over at the end to apologise to the fans though.
-Teams seriously lacking any spark without EMC & Haji
- Rudoni on the wing does not work, need him centrally
- Eccles & Sheaf both doing the same job as water carriers and neither good enough to play a forward pass
- Decent games for Torp & Simms, Saka looked dangerous in the 2nd half

This team is so far from play offs. We had 45 mins + plus against a very poor team down to 10 men and if it wasn’t for Dovin we would have lost

C'mon Ellis we are going to give you a run in the team.
Next stop Norwich.

In all seriousness, where’s the decision to play so slowly coming from?

Players weak mentality and lack of confidence or instructions from the bench, or both.

Poor, poor performance.

On paper, the results the last few games look fine, but in context of who we’ve played it’s not great.
The slow play has to be a mentality/confidence issue, scared to make a mistake, overthinking the basics which has lead to some of the performances we have seen over the last 9 months.

A massive worry though , is our only bright light , of a pretty disastrous first half to our season , is a purchase from league 1 , who only got a chance of a full game , because our star striker is injured !
But when Haji is back , what do we do with this £4.5 mill player in EMC ?

Both start surely? Literally what I just commented as I think Simms needs to play too

I think Haji would have to go central

EMC right & Haj left but given the licence to swap ? I think EMC’s delivery with Wright coming in at the back post could be a real threat. Agree on Simms, needs to play the next 5 games and given a chance as Bassett has

Didn’t watch the game so full apologies and everyone is allowed their opinion so could be talking out my ass

Sounds like Dovin did well which is good for us. Also sounds like Simms did decent.

Negatives sound to be a lack of urgency in pass, struggling to create meaningful chances and a mess up from the defence for there goal.

Won’t point fingers to the players as most are young lads and trying to be better with it. But at some point enough is enough some from of them. If we struggled due to tactics fine, injuries hurting us (which they are) fine but work rate is a non negotiable here.

Need to better but unbeaten in three (don’t get me wrong we shouldn’t have lost but how often have we said that this year). One space higher up the table (as silly as it sounds at least we came away with something). Need to see Lampard make a stamp in the squad via the window now and try to rebuild the culture which appears to have left in the summer.

They both played well.

It feels a lot calmer when Dovin has the ball at his feet, he kept us in it at one point.

Simms held the ball up really well, gave us an outlet in times of pressure, wasn't bullied by their defenders, and bullied theirs in turn to create our goal, did well considering he was being fouled. Couple of good lay offs which others were wasteful with, helped create a good shooting opportunity for Eccles. Couple of chances which he would've buried if he had a little more confidence. A good run in the team will fix that.

One notable difference from the previous Cardiff game, was the left side. JDS was bullied down that side and you could see they didn't have that outlet against Bidwell, I thought he made a massive difference.

There's not really a lot else you can take from that, it was poor.
Let's see what the window brings.

Think if you’re trying to fit both in it’s Wright right and EMC left really. EMC was a totally different player on the right. He’s not cut out for it at all.

Has to be Wright central, EMC left.

I'd like Simms to get a run in the team but the EMC - Wright - Saka front 3 looks the best on paper right now surely?

Honestly, last I heard was 2 weeks ago, talking to a RB and a CM.
I don't want to make anything up, simply hadn't heard at that time about a CB. I desperately would like to see an incoming in that position though.
I'll se him at Norwich, but we may have one in by then, you never know.

Wright could play on the right in theory just as well as on the left as he's very 2 footed, but i suspect he'll go down the middle as the other strikers aren't doing enough.
Just the introduction of him and EMC obviously makes a huge difference to this team, to most teams in the league it would actually. I think Wright especially walks into any of them.

To be fair I think the lack of EMC and Wright is hurting us massively, not just the lack of goals but general play.

They are the ones that stretch the pitch, defenders have to drop off a yard otherwise they risk being beaten and letting them through on goal.

Rudoni naturally wants to drop deeper and get the ball into feet when he plays there, and doesn't have the pace to trouble the defence in that way anyway. And Sakamoto on the other side has never been about that, his game is trickery and link up play.

That all means that at the moment opposition defences feel comfortable squeezing us up the pitch, leaving less space in midfield which our midfielders cannot deal with at all, and that's caused the issues we've seen vs Millwall and today where we just look awful because there's no movement forward.

Still think Bassette on the left would be a better solution. I think we'll look much better when one or both are back. Doesn't excuse these performances though. MVE, Sheaf and Eccles were nowhere near the levels we know they can be today and the rest are yet to prove they can consistently reach the level we need.

100%. I called it before the game, it was painfully obvious. We've seen the same in the previous 1.5 games but still did the same again.
Whilst he's immensely frustrating, BTA should have started with pace & direct running to give them something different to think about.

I thought BTA made some useful contributions and in the absence of BTA and Wright, he adds something a bit more to attack in terms of dribbling and directness.

Sakamoto looked better today but still too hesitant taking on players. Likewise the midfield 3 of Eccles, Torp and Sheaf didn’t do much apart from maintaining possession of the edge of their box.

It’s a wonder he was ever dropped in the first place, heard something about his attitude being an issue. But statistically he’s been comfortably our best GK and today was a good performance from him, there wasn’t a lot he could do about the goal.

I wonder how many points were dropped because of the Collins experiment?

No, I don’t believe so. Collins first start was against Sunderland because Dovin had a ‘freak accident’ or whatever Rhys Carr said at the time. Collins literally conceded an average of 2 goals a game and there was a statistic floating around that we’d conceded something ridiculous like 15 goals from 17 shots on target.

Then Dovin returned and never got in the team until Boxing Day and he’s been solid in every game he’s played.
