Even Sheaf is a little shy. If the going gets tough, we look like a bunch of lost puppies.

But you can see on the pitch he offers so much, and he bridges the gap between defense and midfield so well, the way he holds himself, I think he would be a decent captain as he’d have influence on the side

Sheaf and Hamer aren’t really talkers either. We have very few in the side at all if any.

Are you serious? If your leadership role is on the football pitch, you absolutely need to be vocal.

I have seen Allen getting stuck in with refs to be fair to him.

Haven't noticed if he's overly vocal with the other players or not.

Anyway the captaincy is largely a token gesture anyway. The most vocal players will stand up and be heard regardless of who is wearing the armband.

I wouldn't suggest that any Man utd players that played under the captaincy of Roy Keane or Bryan Robson would agree with your last statement.

He was strange at his Tavern interview. Not many braincells and very shy.

Says a lot when he's captain.

Saw an interview with him last season and I must admit he didn't come across as particularly clever

Neither does McFadzean to be fair but he is an obvious leader.

Of the squad, fully fit, you’d go Fadz/Kelly.

Outside bet for the future is O’Hare for his positive attitude and effort.

However, a Captain has to be a mature type who has been around and knows how to talk to Referees as well as rally our troops.

So for now, I can’t see past Bidwell. Comes across as half switched on in interviews and has been around enough at this level to know how things work.

Indeed and being shy or inarticulate doesn't mean someone is not intelligent. There are all sorts of different types of intelligence, we just tend to think in terms academic and communication skills as intelligence. The traits needed for a football captain are not necessarily academic knowledge or aptitude.

I would have thought a football captain needs to have his teammates' respect, be able to motivate and to get them to follow the managers instructions. Having lots of experience also helps.

Blimey, so having ripped apart Allen's passing ability, we're now destroying his mental ability.

More to the point, THIS SITE is judging his intelligence(!)

Allen is captain until Kelly starts or Fadz is fit.
In Robins we trust.

I agree in principle but there have been captains that were not very vocal, Gerrard, Lloris and Lineker for example
