Long time reader, don't often post let alone start my own threads, the majority that do tend to get shot down within 3 replys, as I am expecting to happen here. Season ticket holder living in Sheffield so all I really have to base my info on is the highly factual telegraph website and this forum.
Would it be possible for us to raise the rent for the Ricoh between the fans, all offered it to side for 400k so I'm sure they could do it to a fans group for less than that, say 300, if we had an average of 10,000 core support at this level, say 1/3 are children so 6000 odd with incomes, £50 a year each to keep the city playing in the city. Over 3 years allowing the owners to get on and start building the enigma that is the new stadium. This would surely be cheaper than the expenditure those who would be travelling to and from Northampton every fortnight would spend, and be a clear show of defiance to the owners of how much this club means to the fans. It would give the football league a chance to find out if the owners are serious with their plans of the new stadium which we are all unsure of at the moment.
It may be a bit pie in the sky, optimistic and take some organising but surely it would be an offer that the owners could not turn down, they say they want to keep the club in the city, they say they cannot deal with acl, they won't need to. How could the football league allow them to play at Northampton when they can play in the city at no cost to the club.
Any thoughts?
Aren't we effectively already contributing to the rent every time we buy a ticket/season ticket?

What a splendid idea! SISU are obviously on their uppers and this would be a most generous gesture.
A few suggestions for what you could call the campaign "Save A Needy Hedge Fund" or "Support A Carpetbagger" or even "Gangsters In Need".
Let me know have your bank details and I will pass them on to all my friends in Nigeria so they can contribute as well.
Its a little to easy to dismiss initiatives like this ,remembering that It was a SISU one that took a similar amount out of their own budget when we were In the championship
with price reductions and we've seen the effect of that. Its very late In the day and Hoffman brokered something similar but he is tainted and it looked like there would be a return required .How on earth could the FL reject the Club playing In its home Stadium In such circumstances .This is a No Brainer, from the Fans for the Club!!
I totally agree with you Wingy and if both sides agreed I would definitely contribute if it enabled my team to play in the city it belongs. However I can't see SISU agreeing to it because it would wreck their plan with regards to securing the prize they covet so much. ACL may feel the same way...just my opinion though.
I am not saying it would but if the idea was accepted by both sides and the result was 3 years football at the Ricoh if all fans paid a bond for 3 years to cover the cost would you support it?
I respect that view Delboy, but It would expose either if they frowned on it ,Its really giving the FL no excuse what ever either sides standpoint,I think.of course it sounds naïve but maybe that's whats needed among all the Chicanery ,a little innocence.
What will happen after 3 years?
Let's face it, there is not going to be a new ground and why would SISU want to spend at least £2m a year on a mortgage for a new ground if a bunch of fans were daft enough to provide one for free? The additional revenue from pie money?
A small element of this does stack up. The football leagues "reluctant" agreement to sanction this move is due to a rent dispute.
If the money was raised for this season and ACL would accept that holdings then can play at the ground there would be no room for either side to move. I'd put £100 in a bond if it meant another season at the ground.
As we all know it's not about the rent for the Ricoh. The whole idea of moving the club away is to distress ACL.
Revenue for the club is about £25 per head. To pay £400,000 in rent would mean 16,000 fans. If the clubs gates fell as low as 5,000 per game then against last year's average of 10,000 then the £400,000 would be raised after playing 4 games at the Ricoh. The maths is easy - SISU's intent and their justification for their actions is completely wrong.
Everyone needs to understand that SISU's game is distressing ACL. There is no business case to move the club away from the Ricoh. Quite the opposite given the fans reaction.
I had a chat with a friend of mine who is an engineer. He thought to build a small stadium would take about 18 months. With the football league agreeing 5 years away then SISU can watch ACL for at least three to see what happens. They will acquire options to buy land and engage contractors on 'options' to convince the football league that they're doing something. Ever wondered why TF's "we'll have a deal for land in three weeks," hasn't materialised?
They can spend a relatively small amount of money over the next three years to wait and see if ACL fail. They might buy land which could be subsequently sold if not needed. When ACL don't fail, they will have to build a stadium. My guess is that it will be three years before work is even close to starting.
Prefect ,while your most likely correct about motives ,the idea here Is that they would lose FL backing for moving away ,and removes this Idea that they cannot communicate with each other as it would be out of their hands. We the Fans are untarnished by any of it ,how could the League back away when the fans solve the problem
The FL have approved the plan to ground-share. When have they ever back-tracked on a decision?
