It is a tough fixture. But of course we can get a point up there. If we don't believe that there would be no point getting into the play-offs anyway.

But whatever happens it has been a great season.

I just from memory can never remember us doing well there. Still we may play them again so we’ve got to get something there to stay in it at some point

Except for a David Cross hat-trick.

If we do need the point and 0-0 at 85 minutes with Sunderland and Millwall winning, what then ???

Get a grip lads. We're going there to win it, they'll rest half the team and Sunderland will hate us forever. It was scripted...

Then we hope Sunderland only win by 1?

If we let one in they would finish ahead of us

They have. If they beat Rotherham and Blackburn beat luton, then they can clinch 3rd

So I get that every team want's to finish as high up the league as possible, but is it a massive benefit for Boro to finish 3rd instead of 4th, with the only exception being who they play in the first games?

Of course we can get a point.

Not only are we a good team and therefore more than capable, our players are going to incredibly motivated. I’d also argue more so than Boro, consciously or not, if you knew you had a play off semi in less than a week are you really going to go all out, risk injury/being booked etc, or play slightly within yourself and converse energy.

It won't be easy for Sunderland at Preston. Last home game of the season so all fit will play and they like us want to sign off with a win. Sunderland are there to spoil the party with a big following. odies on the line for them, but I say a draw the most likely outcome.

For us Boro' know they are in the playoffs so, not the last game of the season for them. The last thing they want is injuries to any key players. They also don't want the prospect of Sunderland in the playoff mix. So for me they are not going full at it. That gives us a chance to get a result at least.

It really is a tough one to call. I'd bring in Allen for Godden and pack the midfield. They can't hurt you if you retain possession. That would give Hamer the opportunity to make advance runs and be creative.

It's such a tense thriller of an afternoon. We could lose and still make it! Is Vik going to try and prove he's better than Akpom? I hope so.

More money for finishing 3rd instead of 4th and could mean they face a different team in playoffs. Might end up with an easier run to wembley

I know some people were saying yesterday that it comes down to head to head if we’re level with Sunderland on goal difference but I’ve just checked and it’s definitely goals scored first EFL Official Website - Section 3 - The League

So if we lose and they win then they finish above us.

If we finish on same points, same GD then it goes on goals scored. Not same points to goals scored.
If we lose 1-0 Sunderland win 1-0 then we both have +11 then goals come into account.

We want to go GD against the other 3 Wall, WBA and Blackburn. We just need to get a draw then all equations go out the window

It’s not going to be enjoyable unless you have nerves of steel or just don’t care that much.
Never have we faced such an uphill task as the team that took on Spurs monied boys in 1987 and we all know how that ended up……

Most seem to be angling towards letting us draw to keep Sunderland out.

Will be very interesting to see our approach for the Cov game.
Do we rest players and keep our cards close to our chest knowing the likelihood is we’re heading into a two-leg tie against them? And while momentum is important, do you play a full strength team in what is essentially a nothing game and run the risk that we get any more injuries to key players?
I will say I wouldn’t want to be the ones relying on us to get a result. You’ve got one team who will be looking at it as a cup final, against another team probably just hoping to get through it with a clean bill of health.

Suppose it's because of the cumulative effect of all three results coming in.

Only way we drop out is if all three results go against us.

So Middlesborugh win, Sunderland and Millwall win. Any other result in any of the three matches will have us qualifying for play offs.

Say Middlesbrough, Millwall, Sunderland are all favourites for there matches with 50% chance to win, 25% chance to lose and 25% chance of a draw for simplicity.

The odds of all three winning would be 0.5 x 0.5 x 0.5 which is 0.125 or as a percentage the likelihood is 12.5%

The only view that really matters is that of the Boro manager. I don't see him going easy.

Rivalry? Thinking it will be a tougher fixture vs them?
As I said previously - they could fancy getting one over them at Wembley!?... being well up for our fixture.
Thing is, it doesn't matter what the fans think... it is down to the respective squads... and despite what anybody says, it is hard for a side/players to go into a game and not play competitively...

If we miss out it'll be on goal difference and while that'll be tough to take, it's not like we didn't have enough chances against Birmingham or Reading to have created a proper cushion. Hopefully Preston turn up and make it an irrelevance.

Can you begin to imagine the Sunderland meltdown if we kick off late, know their score means we just need a point, and Boro and us kick it about for the last few minutes. Please God, let that happen.

And would thus confirm MR alongside Hill as our greatest ever manager.
