Why would you say you'd known somebody 20 years if you weren't friends with them or weren't trying to imply that you had some form of relationship with them?

If you were trying to say you respected their ability & experience in the role and that’s going back years you probably would. That’s not the same as saying the guy is a personal friend.

He personally recruited him as he has known him for 20 years

It clearly matters as people are claiming he was foisted on Robins by King and is responsible for the recruitment that has led to Robins demise. You have been liking posts from Astute which have directly said that

So essentially what we have here is you said Robins was personal friends with Dean Austin- which has been shown to be at best a guess based on the article you put up.

Maybe Robins did select him, it’s not really of huge concern to me- but don’t make things up.

King: We need a new head of recruitment. Mark, who would you suggest?

MR: Dean Austin, I can vouch for him

Still mate you are siding with Astute which is kind of fitting in a way

if it’s that important to you ok, I don’t mind, it’s just a forum. I would draw the line at being accused of “siding with” GIMOC though.

And yet strangely I don’t feel the pain that your remark is designed to elicit, whereas you clearly don’t like being once again called out for lies- the reason being that unlike your good self this place isn’t my life, and I don’t really mind what is said

I haven't lied and it is very clear you have a wafer thin skin.

As for "living on here" - given the fact you have had (and I think still do) multiple accounts its a little bit ironic really.

The irony of who started this thread certainly isn't lost on me. Anyhow, I have been thinking about this for a couple of days and I'm wondering it is down to fans (particularly younger fans) being spoilt with the relative success we've had under Mark Robins for the last seven years. This is despite the desperate attempts of some on here to dismiss his tenure as a failure.

Those of us who watched Coventry City in the 80s will be used to losing, scrabbling around the relegation zone and, apart from the odd occasion, having few bright spots amongst the gloom.

Last season, despite the brilliant cup run, was the first year since Robins became manager that we didn't see an improved league position. Maybe that was the catalyst for the current malaise. Who knows?

Amen to that.

Anyone who supported the club for the last five years don't know how lucky they are.

You do live on here, you know everything everyone has said going back years

Anyway- there’s no need to be scrabbling around trying to run down what Robins achieved, it’s kinda blatant.

Not sure why the new obsession with Grendel et al is to somehow try and prove that Robins' tenure was a failure. Ask 99.9% of fans if they think it was. They'd say no. Ask Grendel, Nick, TomRad, etc and they'd say yes. Like you say, it's pretty obvious his time at Coventry City was a success.

He’s fourth on our all time best manager list for me, but yet somehow being ‘personal friends with Dean Austin’ seems to detract from what he did.

The whole tenure was clearly not a failure but the downward spiral was evident and there is no loyalty in football.

It's pretty straight forward that's how I know I said Ben Stevenson would be better than james maddison

By spiral you mean 14 games ? If a hull fan came on here and saw your posts they'd probably think robins was shite for a long while .

Fact is he gave you and me the best years for atleast 24 years so hopefully they see that too

Not even sure what the issue is here, is it making out that he had nothing to do with Austin being hired and trying to blame King for it or something?

Can't keep up with the stretch of conspiracies.

Oh fair enough, I get misrepresented a lot. I don't think he was a failure at all but I 100% thought we needed to freshen things up now, felt like the right time to me.
People can disagree and that's fine, the only person that mattered did agree though.

You can say this about literally every team in the division (uhh except Sheffield United I guess)

I personally think the squad (bar the defence) is a capable one, but it’s been assembled at a wildly inflated cost.

I think this is fair enough. I think the point is that yep he has gone, and yep it was a bad start to the season.. but trying to say- as has happened and is happening- that the entire last 12 months were garbage, and trying to imply Austin was hired because of a personal friendship with Robins - it’s nasty, not even true, and just designed to downplay what he brought to all of us.

What he didn't of course bring to you was a desire to actually go to games -- did he?

I'm not as down on Sheaf as you but I've always been more critical than most.
But I saw someone that could dominate games when he wanted but would often go missing, I really thought he'd kick on and add some of that consistency but for me he's gone badly backwards

Don't try play the innocently naive. Everyone can see what people are doing by picking specific games.

As I say I was Robins in, so it isn't about that. It's like saying Lampard had a 100% win record if you take the 85th minute onwards. Just gets silly.

I swear people don’t read the threads they’re replying to. Someone said there was no evidence of a turn around. I point to the six game period that was evidence and now it’s the wrong period, it’s cherry picking. You lot are hilarious.
