I’m sure he did once say that he’d like to come back to us to help us get promoted at some point. It’s now or never then I guess.

Wilson wont come here...Didn't he openly say he dislikes Coventry as it has bad memories for him?

I would welcome him as an option from the bench if we were chasing a game, I wouldn't want him starting regularly.

Wouldn't be surprised to see him end up in Saudi for a final big paycheque, he is well thought of at NUFC their owners could probably sort him a lucrative contract at the snap of a finger

100% hes still good enough.

It should be on majority bonus related terms.

Its about 16 weeks work.

Give him 20 k per week.

Get us promoted then its £1m bonus. In Early may.

Jeez this has still got it. Its basically stay fit for 4 months.

Which is what i think we should of offered Bamford. Very similar type thing. Beef up his wage drop with goal and promotion incentive bonuses.
£15-20k a week. With £5k per goal and £500k-1m on promotion and a better contract offer.
Win-win

When he left he said he would be back one day and there is no better time than now and would make sense not signing Bamford if we got him.

But yes in a podcast a year or so ago he said he didnt see coventry as home anymore and didnt see himself going back.

He could live in Leamington though....

Hindsight is a wonderfull thing. I must admit i was sceptical about Bamford.

But as long as we learn from our mistakes and it was a mistake to not go woth lampard on Bamford short term deal.

Any idea why he's looking to cancel his contract? Isn't he playing much or has fallen out with the manager? Don't follow any football info other than on here!

I think they've just signed a couple.of new strikers? So you'd assume it'll drop him down the pecking order.

And I also think he's on appearance type bonuses there so if he sat on the bench most weeks he'd not be earning his full wage.

Anybody they sign has to have a further secondary value I reckon and not less than the starting value - hence Frank gets a wage budget and Doug agrees a transfer target based on resale value as that is what he can sell to his investors - Patrick Bamford would not have fitted this model
At 30yo, we'll not make back the £4m we spent on Grimes. He doesnt fit this "model" of buying based on resale value, yet we still signed him.

Looking to cancel his contract at West Ham apparently.

Despite his poor injury record he’d definitely be a welcome addition back at the City.

2 year contract take us up and one year in the Premiership?

Only stumbling block would be wages.

Thoughts?

Not going to happen. And he's 34 next month, never worth a two year contract, especially with his injury record.

I wasn't, I said from day one he'd be a good addition. Even if he didnt hit the ground running and score goals (let's be honest, if he's scored 5 for Blunts, imagine what he couldve done with half the chances Wright and Simms have squandered in that time) he has bags of experience both in this league, getting promoted, and in the PL. Something this squad severely lacks. That in itself was worth the gamble. The guy has more PL experience alone than our entire squad combined. More PL goals than our entire squad combined. And what we would've saved in transfer fee couldve gone towards his wages. I think the same applies to Wilson now tbf.

I was concerned that had he come in, would he end up being 4th choice behind Wright, Simms, and BTA. But had no doubt he could've done a job for us. Even if that job was bit-part on the pitch but giving his experience on the training ground and in the dressing room.

Clubs are dropping £15m + on Championship strikers with no PL experience. We had one with PL experience free of charge. Massive ball dropped with Bamford. If, and its a big IF, we have a chance at Wilson, I dont think we can miss 2 opportunities in 1 season for a player with experience. Id of preferred Bamford, but that ship has sailed. Id settle for Wilson

The more I think about this the more I love the idea of Callum Wilson spending half a season with us to help us get over the line

Why though?

He's not cut for the prem anymore. No prem club would take him. Zero

That then leaves the options of a lucrative move abroad. Which he may be against (young family, kids etc)

So then his only other option is championship? Of which (form aside) we're (according to the table) the best team in.

Players often want local security at this stage in careers.
A 6 month offer with a 12 month extension if promoted would suit all parties tbh

Not cut out for the prem? He’s scored 4 already this season

A 1-in-4 striker this season for the second worst team in the division is a good enough return for me! They've scored 20 goals. Hes scored.almost 1/4 of those goals.

At his unveiling, West Ham mentioned that Wilson's "journey began in the Radford suburbs, a community full of character".

Same strategy as signing Jamie Patterson last season. More expensive & accordingly more upside.

Note : JP finish v Portsmouth was a highlight of last season.

Players of his ilk..love attention. Cant see him getting more than getting us to the premuer league.

Surely its not all about money for him.

A half fit Wilson would be ten times better than a fully fit Wright.

Unlikely but it would be written in the stars for him to come back to us and score the goals to fire us back up.

Issue is with his injury record over the last few years, we might be lucky to get a half fit Wilson for more than a few games.

Not that I think it'll happen anyway.

He’s got to accept , that at 33 he might have only 1 more club to play for , so being financially stable, why not drop silly demands & help us get to the prem ?

Wasn’t there some talk that he isn’t interested in moving back to the West Midlands due to some stuff from his childhood?
