Question is, we sell Wright, Simms, BTA and others and our budget was £25m

would you be happy spending £8m on Doyle considering he can cover CB, LB and mean we could switch to 3 at the back.

The remainder of replacements spent with the remaining money.

for me Doyle is worth the money.

Hmmm, it’s not just the up front cost tho as well as wages.

I don’t know, I think he’s a brilliant player who will go on (although expected him to be in the prem by now). But spending all that does limit you on options.

Would we be better to look at a Jimmy Dunne or Harry Darling on a free so we have more funds to replace Wright/Simms with a proper striker prospect or established goalscorer?

Dunne isn’t a bad shout. Can’t he play RB too?

Why would he come back here, the stick he got of some of our fans ?

As we know Doyle is a class act, would love him back here on a season long loan or a permanent transfer.

It was pantomime booing, hardly death threats. Fortunately footballers are thicker skinned than most of us

Apparently he is good friends with some of the squad like Eccles and did come and visit last summer.

He has played RB for QPR and Ireland. Darling has also played RB, and left sided CB for Swansea and MK.

iit’d be some signing but he’d get better wages somewhere else, and there’s clubs queuing up for him, can’t see it

Can’t really see it either. But maybe a loan with a perm if promoted could work?

I’d love a player like Darling in the squad. The opportunities from the stands are endless. ‘Bloody hell, Darling!’, ‘I loved that Darling!’, ‘oh come on Darling!’, ‘Really, Darling?’, plenty from Blackadder to use. Let’s get him, Darling.

I’d take Doyle back in a heartbeat and if £8M was the fee, it’s worth it. Imagine he becomes settled at the club and performs, he’d be worth double that which suits our model

And after we've spent probably two record fees replacing them there'd be nothing left.

Good player and passer. One of the things I feel he lacks is pace and that doesn’t really suit Lampards insistence on always playing a high line. Thomas and Kitching I realised aren’t really blessed with it either, but that’s why I’d like whoever we brought in next to be that bit quicker!

All that being said, I’d be happy if he came back

Not £8m.

£3-4m and I'd love him but I'm aware he'd never come here for that fee.

If we have to sell 2 of our top scorers to sign a CB, the answer is that obviously no. He was class for us in 22/23, so I’d like to bring into the fold but not for £8m.

It’s worth noting that Callum Doyle was in a defence that conceded a lot more goals than we did.

Take the £8m and give it to Dennis Lawrence to spend on plane tickets visiting home while he comes back to work.

He played 40 games in a Norwich defence that conceded 68 goals. Why was that?

Because Norwich, as a team, were bang average. Doyle won’t be at fault for 68 goals ffs

Think some have forgotten how good Doyle was for us, how much he improved over the year. However, left centre back is not a priority position.

Would love to, but we won’t be able to shift Binks on.

Fully aware of that. More a question of whether his standards have dropped or he has developed bad habits. It could impact his valuation.

Doyle would be a good addition but I certainly wouldn't be selling Wright yet on the basis of 5 or 6 poor performances.

He was so pumped v Us back in September because he was pissed off at being passed over for Binks when he wanted to come back

Cant blame him. And he had us on strings

I think Thomas is our No1 CB so he could definitely fight for Kitchs spot

Not for me. Kitching is getting better and has leadership qualities. Binks is fine as back up to him. I think we need an older head experienced right side CD to replace Latabadieure as for me he is too small for CD

Yes we need that competition and both would get plenty of game time.

If we had the chance to get Doyle for £8m I’d take their hand off. Has ability and a bit of nastiness about him and can play LB. The sort of quality we need to add to progress.

8m!
Surely we could strengthen over a few areas for that sort of outlay.
If 8m is the price, he won't be coming here.

If it were more of a reasonable deal, I'd be really happy with this though.
