All these people who now go to Wasps, at least the Coventry contingent, if they wanted to watch rugby, had they gone to Cov, they would have given the City’s own rugby club a fighting chance of reaching the top flight. Imagine what Cov could have achieved if they were watched by 6k or 7k each home game.

The butts used to be the home of Coventry Godiva Harriers, had cycle track, running track, long jump pits, grass pitch in the centre also further towards Albany road entrance were tennis courts and bowling greens.There was also some kind of athletics meeting there with a few stars of the day in the 80s if i recall when running events changed from yards to metres the butts running track was a odd size lap so at that event i think somebody set a world record for running the fastest and only 452m race something like that anyway. Most Sunday League cup finals were played there entrance was free there was usually two finals on the same sunday but you would get splitters sitting in the stand of the benches. I played in a couple of finals there myself won one lost one, was also our training pitch being local to the Broomfield Tavern.
