To be honest I don't think that really comes into it.

A massive new Tesco has opened today in what used to be the car park at Fratton Park (they are now landlocked with no car park and no room for expansion). The land it was on was restricted use to prevent it being used for anything other than the football club. That was torn up. There were thousands of objections, its in an area that already has huge traffic problems with no infrastructure improvements but it all got waved straight through.

The fact that there is already a stadium there and there has previously been planning permission for a bigger stadium there wouldn't do any harm either.

Already got one, it's only half a mile from the main station so it'd be better than the Ricoh

One thing for sure the general consensus is that if a new ground is to happen it has to be in Coventry full stop!

What about CRFC & Coventry Bears thought's of handing over the ground to us who in the few years have proved we can't run our previous grounds. Dont people think these clubs may also want a cut of the sudden found income?

Judging by many other threads on here regarding the city of Coventry, an awful lot of posters seemingly hardly ever go into town.

Well, I suggest people do, because most of the car parks are pretty much filled to the brim every Saturday anyway. Where are all these football supporters suddenly going to get to park?

Also, though I have no problem with the Butts at all IF it was feasible, there's a retirement village right next door and I mean, literally right next door. Do we honestly think we can just throw up a stand there?

Your correct, things can get passed when it suits. I would love to see us in our own ground but I just cannot see the butts as the answer. It limits us to much, too many parties likely to object. Also the principle of who will actually own it. What about the 2 other rugby teams that play there, they have more right to be there than us. Will the playing surface cope with 3 teams playing on it

There's a few corpses buried under the top corner as you enter the ground.
Andrew Green and Keith Fairbrother I think.

Time will tell whether my source is accurate.
When the actual facts come out you can judge me.

A lot of people talking about a new stadium have not actually got season tickets and a few don't actually attend.

Only shit because you don't like what he said?

Come on what sort of forum would this be if we all agreed.
Be like GMK dead.
They bullied off anyone who didn't agree with them, then we're left with the same few posters who just went around patting each others backs.
Funny how some of posters are now trying to do the same here.

First point is you havent been right yet, how long do I give it a decade? a century? Its laughable.

Secondly what does having a season ticket matter with respect to talking about a new ground?

I dont have one but does that mean you, you arrogant arse, have more right to peddle your view than I have to express mine. There are many people on the site like me, that due to a variety of reasons cant be season ticket holder, and we dont need idiots like you, claiming their view is more important like they are some gold star superfan.

You embarrass yourself peddling that crap..

Looks like the rugby club got permission in 2003 (which lapsed 5 years later) for “new rugby stadium incorporating three spectator stands, a business/leisure/function centre, new student residences, ancillary car parking, landscaping and access arrangements.”
http://planning.coventry.gov.uk/portal/servlets/ApplicationSearchServlet?PKID=5218
The file attachments seem to be impossible to download, at least for the likes of me! But I saw a drawing for a later amendment, and the stadium just about fits into the space.

I can’t find any reference to the capacity, but the single stand which actually got built is 4,000 so sure enough that would point to around 12,000 in total. As people have said, the site is extremely tight, and expanding it to 20,000 looks very tough.

I love the idea of an atmospheric city centre ground, but this looks like trying to get a quart out of a pint pot. And the retirement village mentioned by Otis has gone up in the meantime, making it even more difficult.

For me, a proper partnership at the Ricoh still makes the most sense.

btw can’t help wondering whether the new CEO is already on the naughty step for giving too much away. Fisher has rejoiced in keeping us in the dark on this for years, and the new boy may have inadvertently turned the lights on his first day? He might have to put an exercise book down the back of his trousers before visiting Ms Sepella’s office.

Unless wasps sell us 50% of ACL we will never be proper partnership, just a landlord and tenant relationship, and they aren't going to do that when they are using it as security of for £42m bond scheme.
